Ear Issues

Denver, CO

I haven't had an earache since I was a kid. I had one last week, very faint, took my allergy meds and it seems fine. The past two days however it feels like and sounds like fluid in my ears. I don't want to rush to the Dr, no fever, no ear pain anymore and it is just annoying more then anything. It has a feeling of being full of fluid. Any suggestions how to do something about it? I am sure with the cold on and off here and the wind that could be a issue. UGH! Is there something I can help draw out the fluid?

Frequent Sinus Headaches

Chicago, IL

I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but I have been getting sinus headaches almost daily, I thought it was my allergies but now that we are into the winter months I"m not so sure. I stopped using my nasal spray in October and now have started it again. The border on what I would consider migraine status causing nausea and eye and tooth pain. If anyone has any suggestions that would be helpful.

Has Anyone Ever Used a Chiropractor for Their Babies Sinus Issues?

St. Louis, MO

My 11 month old daughter has had a runny nose for almost two months now. She has red puffy eyes frequently. She recently was treated with antibiotics for a double ear infection. She has had four ear infections in seven months. The pediatrician wants to talk about the possibility of tubes at her 1 year appointment. My chiropractor that treated me for sinus issues said I should bring her in for treatments. I asked the nurse at the pediatrician's office and they said they would not recommend that but they would recomend an ENT. She said if it has worked for me then I could try it but they can't recommend that. I guess since it isn't considered traditional medicine. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Headaches Linked to the Weather

Dallas, TX

Hi I am not sure this is the right area to post but here goes. I have chronic recurring headaches on one side of my face/head that seem like sinus pain/pressure but 90% of the time its when the weather changes! For example if it goes from sunny to windy and rainy like today, I will start to experience a pressure headache on the left side of my head at night (right when the front is moving in I guess) and then if I don;t take tylenol, it can progress to a migraine. sometimes the headaches last 2-3 days...mild, dull and achy not the migraine kind but I feel lethargic and out of sorts and cannot sleep well at night. I also have congestion and my left ear hurts. It is definitely related to the weather and I almost have a sixth sense now on what the weather is going to do based on teh pressure I feel in my head! I have gone to my PCP and all he says is take motrin and a decongestant. the decongestant makes me very loopy and out of sorts. I hate takign tylenol 2 times a week like this. I can go for a coupel of weeks with nothing and then all of a sudden if we are having temperamental weather I will have to pop tylenol way too often for a couple of weeks. Mostly I want to go to a doctor that can help me figure out why this is happening and give me some solutions. I am open to alternative therapies as well. Anyoen else experience this kind of headache in the metroplex?

How to Get a 4 Month Old to Sleep with a Cold

Chicago, IL

My son is 4 months old and started daycare about 2 weeks ago. Of course he already has his first cold! He was sleeping through the night but now is waking 3 times a night. One of those wakings seems to be to eat but the others are not. I'm assuming it's a combination of adjusting to daycare and waking more easily because he's sick. I'm currently using a cool mist vaporizer at night. They are also having trouble getting him to sleep in his crib at daycare too. Any advice on how to get him to sleep better at night even with a stuffy nose and how to encourage him to sleep in his crib at daycare?

Question About Tubes for Repeat Ear Infections

Chicago, IL

Hi everyone! I am wondering if any of you have ever decided against putting in tubes for repeat ear infections in your child. Did your child outgrow the infections? It has been recommended that both my 2 and 5 year old sons have tubes put in by our ENT (Dr. Gartlan) on the first visit. I have heard that if you take your child to an ENT they always want tubes or tonsils removed because surgery makes them more money. Is there any truth to this? Is there anyone out there who chose not to do the tubes and things got better? My older son has no pain with his ear infections, but because of his allergies has constant drainage that causes them all the time. My younger son definately feels the pain of the infections. The antibiotics help right away, but the infection comes back with each minor runny nose (which he seems to pick up every other week). Does anyone know of alternate solutions? Thanks in advance for any help or insight you can give.

Recurrent Ear infections/A 3 Years Old with 3 Set of Tubes Already!

Dallas, TX

I need help with my son Gabriel who is 3 1/2 years old, he had so many ear infections that he already had 3 set of tubes: one at 8 months, the second at 16 months (they took the adenoids out) and two weeks ago! The doctors keep telling me he is going to out grow it, but I am afraid of him losing his hearing. Also he had speech delay because of it, so he goes to a PPCD to help him with his speech. I just wanted to know if anyone out there have any suggestions, any! please. Thank you so much.

Repeat Ear Infections

Los Angeles, CA

My three old son has had four ear infections in the last month and a half. What makes this particularly frustrating is that he has had two sets of tubes put in as well as his tonsils and his adenoids out. This is ear infection number 26, to be exact. He seems to be immune to the antibiotics (which I despise giving him but do anyway) and the ear drops work for about a week. I have tried Mullein Garlic oil and other homeopathic remedies but nothing is working. I'm afraid that he may start to lose his hearing. I know I need to get his allergies tested...Dairy may be an attribute to all of this. Does anyone have any other advice or remedies that you have tried??? THANK YOU

Seeking Solution to a 2-Week Old Cough!

Los Angeles, CA

My 10 month old has had a nasty cough - first congestion, then runny nose, now back to congestions. She sounds like she's purring when she breathes sometimes. She doesn't have a fever and the cough isn't all day. We've been using a warm mist humidifier and euculyptus chest rub daily during naps and nighttime. Does this warrant a trip to the ped? Or can we do something different at home?

Seeking Some Answers About Ear Infections.

Killeen, TX

Hi, my name is N.. I have an almost 10 mth old son, whom after diner, started running a low fever and got pretty cranky. He felt fine all day until after diner. He is getting over another cold, and I was always told that ear infections were a common factor with colds. I am asking for some signs of ear infections? I gave him 1 tsp of ibrophren and some gas medicine about 30 mins ago. He has been "messing" with his ears lately, but I think that he just discovered that they were there. Any information would be helpful. Thanks alot, N.

Sons Neck and Around Ear Are Swollen+ Headache

Chicago, IL

Hi Mamas! Once again I come to you for any and all advice you may have! My 19 year old son has been complaining for a long time of headaches. He has had a previous traumatic brain injury 2 years ago. About a month after he was out of the ICU he was complaining of neck pain and we went back to the Dr. He sent us to the ER for a CT scan of the neck. It came back that he had a swollen lymph node and from prior CT scans it has enlarged. We had a biopsy of it done and it came back benign and we were told to watch it closely. Can benign turn malignant? So he has been complaining of the headaches and has been taking Norco and Vicoden as needed for pain. He went to the Dr on Tuesday night and he sent him for a CT scan of the brain to make sure he did not have bleeding again. It came back with no bleeding and just a compression (?) Not sure what that means yet. He mentioned the swollen lymph nodes in the neck and the Dr blew him off and said to come back next week if it was still bothering him. It was noticably swollen that day. Thursday night the pain was so bad that he went to the ER. His neck and around his ear was completely swollen and they diagnosed him with a cyst. He also can barely hear out of that ear now. The swelling and pain started in his neck and has traveled. He shows no signs of otherwise being sick besides being tired and in pain- but nothing like a cold, sinuses or the flu. I have been looking at pictures of cysts on the ear and none of them look anything like my sons! He was given an antibiotic and told to take Ultram for the pain. Today it is even more swollen and the Dr he goes to says to wait until next week again! So, I am wondering.... am I just being paranoid or should I be on the Drs butt about this! He is an adult and has no insurance so I wonder if that is why he is getting the brush off. I hate to have my son go to the ER but he was completely desperate and earlier was crying again- he NEVER cries and he has been through many VERY painful things in his life! I have told him to take Ibuprofen and hot showers and warm compresses hoping it helps but can anyone think of anything else that may work? I do not believe it is a cyst but have no clue what else to do! Thank you all in advance for any and all help, info and advice you can give me! Blessings to you all!

Still Getting Ear Infections After Tubes

Dallas, TX

My son had tubes put in his ears five weeks ago after having multiple ear infections and fluid that never went away since he was 4 months old which was affecting his hearing. In the five weeks since he got his tubes he's had two more ear infections. We have an appointment with the ENT tomorrow, but I'm interested to hear what worked for other moms who went through a similar experience. I've read some of the previous posts, as well as other websites this weekend, and have come across these suggestions: 1) See a chiropractor 2) It may be a dairy allergy 3) Take him out of day care 4) Remove adeniods 5) Prevnar vaccination I haven't seen any posts on this forum for options #3 or #5, so I'm really interested to know if either of those worked for anyone. Thanks, E.

Stuffy Baby!

Kansas City, KS

My seven month old had an aweful night! He barely slept because he was so stuffy and congested. Every time he would wake up, he would just cry in frustration. I think we both got about two hours of sleep. I finally put him in his bouncy chair so his head was above his feet -- he got a little relief from that. What can I do tonight to help him with this congestion? I know it is just a cold but I would love to hear any remedies you might have for his poor nose!

This One Is About Me!

Sacramento, CA

Since I was pg, I started experiencing the need to constantly clear my throat, as if I had too much mucas in my throat. The problem is, it very rarely clears up. I have had this SINCE I was pg, meaning that it's still going on. Sometimes it can be quite unattractive, seeing that I snort and hack (I don't know how to spit it out, so obviously, I don't) and cough and clear... it sounds really bad when I do it. I even swallow really hard to try and get some movement. Has anyone else had to go through this???? I would really love for someone to truthfully say "hey, me too" and "this is what I did to help it". I'm tired of it.... it sucks!

Tonsils

Tampa, FL

Ok so my husband has a throat infection with little white spots on his throat. He went to the doctor and they said that it wasn't strep it was an infection that is contagious. My consern is my2 yr old. Although he doesn't have white spots, my husband says his tonsils look swollen. I can't remember what they are supposed to look like since it has been forever since I actually seen tonsils. So my question is, are tonsils supposed to be visible? When do you know they are swollen? And when should I be concerned enough to take him to the doctor?

Vicks Vaporub

Los Angeles, CA

Hi Mamas!! My baby Isaac is going to be 2 in April. I know there are no medicines for babies who are sick but his cough is just terrible. It wakes him up so frequently in the night that he is tired during the day. The cough is coming from a post nasal drip. I'm wondering if anyone has any homeopathic remedies or any ideas. Also, I want to know if I can put vicks on his chest. The Vicks baby rub says it is to soothe while the adult vicks says it is a cough suppresent. I'd like for my little guy to get some relief with the adult formula - it says not for under 2 - what do you think? We currently are running the humidifier and we sit in the bathroom while the steamy shower runs. I've tried the hyland's cold tablets and they work during the day but not at night. Any other ideas?
