Pregnancy and Swine Flu

Hi Moms, I am freaking out and need some advice.....I am a teacher in a school who has AT LEAST 2 confirmed cases of Swine Flu. My issue is I am 7 months pregnant, can't find a vaccine anywhere to save my life, AND...I work in a modular unit with only 4 classrooms, and that is where the kids have it are. So, my work told me about the situation and then left it up to me. The doctor says to take a few days off, which I did. But, now the situation is not getting better...more kids in the modulars are out, and I have no way of knowing if...

HELP!! My 8 Month Old Baby Has Diaper Rash So Bad I Can See Some Red Skin!!!!

I'm feeling so bad :( Since yesterday she has had severe mucusy diarrhea and she only vomited once uptil now. She cries in pain every time she pooped and everytime i changed her diaper right after she pooped I could see her diaper rash growing. I kept putting Desitin and also I have Up and Up diaper rash cream. Today I met with her Pediatrician and he said to only give her Pedialyte (no milk or solid foods) until her diarrhea stops . to wait for 6 to 8 hours. My father in law and husband insisted i give her just a little formula...

Guilt over Son's Premature Birth

Hi ladies, I'm new to this site and in need of an honest opinion about my son's birth. My son was born a few months ago and he was born at 31 weeks and I feel like it was all my fault. When I was about 28 weeks along I went to the bathroom and when I stood up I felt a drip go down my leg. I called my OB and they were booked that day (it was about 3pm) and told me to go to a local hospital OB triage. During that visit they did a "dry specimen" where they cannot use any lubricant and they put the speculum inside and swabbed my uterus...

Vitamins While Breastfeeding

Just wondering what other people are doing. While breastfeeding, do you just take a regular multivitamin or do you still take the prenatal vitamins? I know the prenatal ones have a lot more folic acid and iron than regular ones, but do you really need that much folic acid once the baby is born (especially since I already get tons of folic acid from my diet since I'm a vegetarian).

Suggestion for Infant Formula That Creates Less Gas

Hello: I am hoping that one of you might be able to point me in the right direction. I am looking for a formula that creates less gas for my 2 week old son. We are currently using Enfamil lipil with iron, but it seems to create quite a bit of gas for him and it is so hard for me to watch him in such pain. Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, A.

Need Help with Pediatrician Problems

I am having troubles finding a decent pediatrician for my kids. We started with Pediatric Assoc. of Springfield and really liked Dr. Zainey but the office staff was horrible. so we went to see Dr. Chitkara in Springfield. He actually refused my kids treatment. I am requesting legal advice as well as suggestions on pediatricians. Here is the situation with the Dr. Chitkara. He had asked us if Melanie had any problems and we are like yes she has really bad problems having bowell movements. Takes her like 45 mins sometimes longer maybe even...

Mom Looking for Home Remedy for Coughs

My one year old has this cold which is getting a little better but he has this cough with a little rattle in his chest. MY 3 year old is just starting to get a runny noise and a cough so now he is getting it too. I really hate to continue giving them the over the counter cold medicine. I have tried many of them over the years and none of them seem to work. We have seen the peditrician before and they are no help when it comes to getting rid of a cold or easing the symptoms. Does anyone know of a home remedy that works for coughs. ...

What to Put in a Bottle When Baby Has a Fever?

Hello everyone. My 15 month old son has been running a fever since Wednesday night. It's been a low-to-medium grade fever... goes up and down as the tylenol takes effect and wears off. He is teething and cutting molars, but I really don't think it's teething, because until now, he has NEVER run a fever while teething.(although my older three boys always did, this one just doesn't) He really hasn't wanted to eat any food, just a few bites of this, and maybe one bite of that... very little. I started to put Gerber brand Apple Juice in...

Sippy Cup Suggestions?

My son is almost 14 months, and I have been trying to transition him to either a straw cup or a sippy cup. He does great drinking cold water out of a sippy cup, a few sips here and there, but I can not get him to take milk out of a sippy cup or straw cup. Any suggestions? Additionally, he will not drink cold milk. I have to warm it up to room temperature, and I would like to stop that as well. Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated.

Any Relief for a Coughing Baby?

Hi Everyone, My 18-month-old daughter has a cold and coughed all night long last night, so we're all miserable. I used to give her some Tylenol Cough and Cold for sleeping, but that was taken off the market with the recall. Can anyone offer any tricks for helping a coughing baby (and the rest of the family) sleep? I read in the news about a recent study that said that a teaspoon of honey before bed proved to be more effective than cough medicine, but I haven't tried that yet. Both my girls just finished a course of antibiotics for...

Natural Help for Asthma and Allergies

Hi. My son was diagnosed with allegies and allergy induced asthma when he was 7 years old. We left the allergist's office with 6 different prescriptions. He is allergic to dust, mold, soy and egg yolk. I do not feel comfortable giving him pills, inhalers and nasal sprays on a daily basis. In general, he can rarely breathe clearly through his nose. Whe he gets an illness, it immediately goes into his lungs. I have been trying to research natural remedies that would help him, but have found none that work yet, or that he would do...

Extremely Dry/Cracked Skin

My almost 6 month old daughter has extremely dry skin. I just noticed today that the skin in the folds on the back of her legs is cracked. I don't give her a bath, that's my husband's job so I should make sure he is rinsing her real well there. But does anyone have any suggestions for good lotion/cream to use for such dry skin? One of my twins (age 2) has extremely dry skin too. I had started to put baby oil on it but they both broke out in a rash so I went back to Johnson's lotion. I'm open to any and all suggestions. Thanks!

HELP- 18 Month Old Measuring Small

My daughter is almost 19 months but we had her 18 month checkup today. She weighed 21 lbs 8 oz and measured in the 9th percentile. I have not been worried about her weight (even though I knew she was small) because she ate a blanced diet (fruits, veggies, beans, cheese, etc.) and is meeting her milestones. She even has a little bit of a "belly." The only thing she really doesn't want to eat is meat. She has been known to out-eat my 4 year old son from time to time. The doctor, however, is concerned as her percentile has dropped. She...
