Children Seem to Be Sick All the Time

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on trying to keep kids healthy. It seems that this past winter and into the spring my boys are constantly sick with either the flu, colds, rotovirus, or even ear infections. I work in the healthcare field and am a nut about cleanliness, i.e. washing hands etc. Should I be giving them vitamins or any other nutritional supplement such as Pediasure to help? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am at my wits end!

Singulair and Nasonex

My 8 year old son has had a persistent cough for about 7 weeks or so. I took him to the doctor 8/19, and they took an x-ray of his lungs. The doctor diagnosed him with mycoplasma pneumonia, and gave him an antibiotic that he took for the prescribed 5 days. The cough has not gone away so we went back to the doctor today. Unfortunately is GP was out on vacation so we had to see a different doctor. This doctor gave us samples of Singulair and Nasonex (nasal spray). After reading online about the two products, I am not so sure they are...

Adenoids & Tonsils

I'm looking for feedback on shaving adenoids and tonsils at age 6. After one treatment of anti-biotics and Nasonex, a Pediatric ENT has recommended surgery. My son is a mouth breather, but does not snore excessively, does not have sore throats, does not get ear infections however he does have disrupted sleep (wakes often with dreams) and does seem over tired that may be correlated with difficult behavior at home. He manages well in school. Anyone's experience in this area; both having the procedure and opting out of the procedure at the...

Nasonex for a Seven Year Old...

My seven year old son has suffered from severe migraines since he was three. This last summer they increased in both frequency and severity. I finally convinced his doctor to refer him for allergy testing. As I had suspected, he has allergies that include: Russian Olive Trees, Box Elder Trees, Ragweed, and many other trees and weeds that are common in our area. The doctor said that he will be most heavily affected from early summer through harvest. This doesn't surprise me really as this is when he has the most migraines. He has never had a...

Zyrtec Vs. Nasonex

My 2.5 year suffers from a chronic wet cough. It's been months and months and the cough is still there. At one point, we gave him Zyrtec per the dr's recommendation and it cleared up for alittle while but then it came back. Nasonex helped another time but then it also came back. Now I'm at a loss - do I have to give Zyrtec and/or Nasonex daily to keep the cough away? Or is it on an as needed basis? What's the difference between the 2 medications and which is safer? How long have your kids been on it? Thanks!
