Helping Out a Chronically Ill Friend

We are good friends with a family in our neighborhood. Our children attend the same school. We have known each other for a couple years. The mom suffers from a chronic condition related to her Pituitary Gland. She is often bedridden and is currently in the hospital. I wonder how can I support them better when times are tough? I have thought that bringing a meal by is good idea. I would like to extend a helping hand in a way that is thoughtful but not creating more stress for them. I don't want to say, "Well, if you need...

Allergic to the Dog?

My 18-month old has a pretty-much contiuously runny nose. It usually combined with nasal congestion. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to bother her and it doesn't transform into infections or other problems. I suspect she may be allergic to our dog. Is there a way to tell? Is it possible to test for just a dog allergy? Or do I have to subject her to a huge painful test? I really don't want to do that, but if she is allergic I need to konow.

Seeking Female Pediatrician for 12-Yr-old Autistic-Spectrum Child

Hi, there! My daughter, whom we adopted from China when she was 10 months old, has a long list of psychological challenges, but we do our best to deal with those through specialized schooling, therapists, and medication. Right now, my question is a bit different. She menstruated regularly as clockwork for about a year (started early!) and then suddenly stopped. She has been 5 months without a period. My own OB-GYN can't see her, as a minor, and suggests she see her pediatrician. Problem is, I have come to LOATHE our pediatrician, who...

2 1/2 Month Old with Bronchiolitis

I'm not sure if I spelled it right, but we took my 2 month old to the doctor with a very bad cold and cough. He said she had bronchiolitis. Can anyone tell me what I can do to make my daughter a little more comfortable & if I should calm down & not be too worried. I've gotten a vaporizer and some saline drops for her nose. We just can't get her to cough up the "yucky" stuff. Actually we can't get it out before she swallows it again. Help... does anyone have any suggestions?

14-Month-old Is Constipated

My 14-month-old son is constipated a few times a week. I have been in contact a few times with the pediatrician's office and am doing everything I can. This started when he was switched over from formula to whole milk. Also, he does not drink much water. I am always forcing it on him, but he won't drink much. I give him prunes or blueberries to eat, make his baby cereal with prune juice, give him whole grain foods, etc. I also water down his milk and occasionally put Karo syrup in his milk. He still has problems with constipation. ...

Son Wakes with Stuffy Nose

My son who is 14 months old usually wakes earlier in the morning than usual (6 am) with a stuffy nose. Once he is up he wakes up completely after his nose has been cleaned out. Rarely he will not have a stuffy nose in the early morning and sleep until 7. His schedule gets all off waking up an hour earlier (he'll take 2 naps and then go to bed late), plus I would love to have that extra hour of sleep. I've tried everything from humidifier to vaporizer and it still never fails in the early morning hours he gets such a congested nose he wakes...

Stomach Virus Question

My 6 year old came down with the stomach virus late Monday night. She felt terrible all day Tuesday and was feeling better by Wednesday. Thursday night I came down with the virus. I felt awful all day yesterday, but I felt better today. I had my daughter spend the night away from home last night to try to avoid the germs as much as possible. I have cleaned and Lysoled everything that would stand still. Tonight before she went to bed she mentioned that her tummy hurt. I know that could be several things - remnants of the virus, the fact that...

Clogged Tear Ducts

My 8 month old son has had clogged tear ducts since he was born. I wondered if anyone else has experienced this. The doctor says it normally goes away on it's own, but it's getting very frustrating. He screams when we try to put the warm washcloth on his eyes to wipe it off and we do it as gently as possible. Has anyone had the procedure done to open the tear ducts? If so, what was your experience with that? Does it work? Thank you for your help.
