Another Ear Infection: 3Rd Set of Tubes or Steroids???

Its eartube decision time - again. My son has another ear infection (I think) just three weeks after his last one. He is 2.75 and has been suffering from frequent ear infections since his 1st birthday. He got his first set of tubes at 18 months, they worked for 9 months with no infections, and then he blew one and then the other out in the spring. His ENT took the watchful waiting approach, but with 5 infections in four months we put in new tubes. He has had infections in both ears since the tubes (in July), and then three weeks ago...

Steroids for Fetal Lung Development?

The goods new is the baby is healthy and above average in weight, however, the drs. are quite certain I will have an early csection, due to complications/high risk and have talked about giving me steroids to speed up the baby's lung development (I A. 29.5 weeks right now). If you were given steroids to speed up lung development, can you tell me what the experience was like? Any side effects for the baby (or you)? I really do understand that this is for the benefit of the baby, in the event he comes early, it gives him the best chance of...

Tonsils and Adenoids or Just Adenoids

My 3.5 year old daughter has been chronically stuffy for what seems like her whole life. She got tubes at 20 mos (after 11 ear infections), she's been tested for allergies (negative) and still breathes through her mouth at night, and is up often... I have an ENT appt scheduled in the next week or so. In the meantime wanted to ask you if you have experience w/ the tonsil & adenoid removal. Can you just remove the adenoids? Is recovery easier? Or while in there should I just have them both removed (if it comes to that). Thank you ... AGAIN!

Preliminary Diagnosis: Systemic Arthritis?

I saw my doctor yesterday for help with some significant and lasting joint pain (both shoulders, both hips, one knee, four fingers so far, and all 10 toes), and 3 of the 5 tests she ordered are back. They results show that I have systemic arthritis. The other two more detailed tests won't be back for a week. I got the referral I needed to see a Rheumatologist and they actually had a cancellation tomorrow, so I feel lucky that I could grab that appointment. My kiddo has two appointments tomorrow at the same time that he can't miss,...

Do I Really Need to Take These Steriods?

Clearly Im not a medical professional and I have no idea what Im doing, but I was on the Zpac for bronchitis and it made my body swell up and hives everywhere. I had to go to the hospital today and got a huge benadryl shot in my bum and they have me a steriod pill. The sent me home with a script for benadryl and the steriods that I havent picked up yet. Im going to have to go get it because I guess the benadryl wore off and Im getting really itchy again. So, I really dont want to take the steriods. Could I just take the benadryl? I...

Bronchitis & Stomach Flu

I am a Nanny looking after 3 year old twin boys. Both were coughing and obviously under the weather, Finn has asthma so we went to the doctor just in case, Finn ended up having Bronchitis and was given amoxil to take at breakfast and dinner. That entire day Gabe had diarrhea, and threw up in the middle of the night. Today Finn, Mom, Grandpa, Grandma and I all became sick. Its obviously very contagious, and now Gabe is fine- so 24hour as well. My question is concerning Finn's Bronchitis? And wether or not he is okay without taking amoxil?

Just Found Out a Friend Has Cancer

This is more of a vent, I just found out someone I know has cancer, the worst part is that she is 6 months pregnant. I feel horrible. I am confused as to why the Doctor didn't catch the cancer earlier on, she was overweight when she started her pregnancy at around 200 lbs, she lost 45 lbs during the 6 months and constantly complained about not feeling well and having pain. Last week the doctor sent her to a specialist who found the cancer in the liver after more checking they realized the cancer has spread to the intestines. I feel so bad...

Cold, Runny Nose Advice

My 18 month old has her first cold. She has a runny nose, and drainage that made her gag and throw up a little last night. I could hear that she has a lot of drainage and was having trouble breathing through her nose. I have been SO very lucky that she has been a very healthy child. She just started in a Mother's Day Out program, so I am sure she'll begin to pick up more germs. Can anyone give me advice on alleviating cold symptoms and what to watch for, in terms of this moving to an ear infection? Should I use the humidifier? Vapor rub?...

Anyone Else Encounter Normal Diarrhea in a 3-Yr-old for Weeks on End?

Hi Ladies, I am hoping to gain any helpful info for a friend whose daughter has had full-out diarrhea several times/day for the past 3-4 weeks. She has taken her to the pediatrician once and they said the daughter, Anna, is healthy and fine. She eats normal, sleeps pretty normal, is a happy child, but has had awful diarrhea now for almost 4 weeks. Has anybody seen or heard of this before? Is it normal? Any recommendations or insight would be greatly appreciated!

I Feel like I'm Under water....HELP!!!

I have an ear infection in both ears and I feel like my whole head is under water, because of the fluid in my ears. My left ear is ringing and my right ear is popping. I went to the doctor on Monday and they gave me some antibiotics. I have taken my third dose of meds this morning, and my ears still have no improvement. So my question is how do I get the feeling of being under water to go away?? Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you.

Hi Mamas, Husband has a tooth abcess (ouch: literally, and we have dental insurance but holy expensive - we are having the tooth pulled and an implant placed for $4100!). Of course the dentist recommends antibiotics and steroids, and I am willing to make an exception to my "antibiotics are WAAAAYYY overused in Western society" policy for this particular case. I feel they are absolutely necessary in this situation. So, the surgery isTuesday, and the Dentist says don't begin the course of antibios until Monday (OK, I thought he was...

Kindergartner with Major Mood Swings

Okay, I am absolutely at the end of my rope. My 6 year old boy has lately been viciously mean to me, is hyper-active at home, and constantly in his little sister's face, goading her into a response. Then, when she swipes at him, he bursts into tears (so loud I think he has just cut off a limb or something) and starts sobbing that she hit him. He is also having extreme mood swings - he's so sweet, helping his sister or me out, sharing a special treat with his sister, helping me with the dogs, and then all of the sudden starts screaming at...

ITP And MS...any Advice?

Hi Ladies. This has been a particularly hard year for me. Back in March I was hospitalized with ITP (an auto-immune blood disorder) and in May was told that I probably have MS too. I have been going thru a ton of tests and the results seem to lean toward an MS diagnosis and the next thing I need to have done is the Lumbar Puncture which really scares me. I'm also on steroids for the ITP which just put me back in the hospital 3 weeks ago, and now have to consider getting my spleen out. Anyway, I sometimes feel like I'm so alone in all...
