1St Birthday Party, Small or Big?

I need some opinions since I'm divided between make a big party for my baby's 1st birthday or make just something small and simple. I do want something BIG with tons of friends and puppets and music, food and a HUGE cake ... but my husband wants something small, just close friends and a small cake for her to dig in. Some people say that is not a big deal since she wont remember it but I will and I really think is a big milestone for us as a parents too. I don't know what to do. Suggestions?

3Rd B-day, Indoor Party Ideas

I posted this same question on Sunday, but no one answered, so I'll try again... My son will be 3 on December 29th. With a Dec. b-day, out door parties can be risky plans. For his 1st b-day we had the party at the house. His second b-day, I had just had surgery the day before, so we didn’t have a party. This year we want to do something really fun, as this is the first birthday he has ANY chance of remembering. So far we have looked into “Jurassic Parties” with Pre-Historic Pets and 2 different Ice-Skating rinks (he’s taking...

Help with Solid Food Schedule for 10 Month Old

My 10-month began eating solids when he was 6 months and ate really well - then a month or so ago, he basically refuses to eat them. He will eat in the mornings (eggs, fruit etc) but as the day goes on he won't eat them and only wants bottles of formula. Can anyone suggest anything/send an example of how much your baby eats and when (and the breakdown of solids/milk). I thought the milk would be tapering off now, but it doesn't seem to be. He doesn't have any teeth yet also. Thanks.

My 3 Year Old Has a Friend Who Encourages Bad Behavior

My daughter goes to daycare and the last couple of months she has been playing almost exclusively with one particular little girl. As I see it, the girl decided they would be friends and now they are. Before this, DD would play with other kids all day. Now, only this one. That would be fine with me, except this girl is bossy. She speaks for my daughter ("We like jaguars. We want a Spiderman cake. "), directs all of their activities, and encourages her to ignore the teacher. I got a talking to by both teachers about how DD was kept...

Is This Enough to Learn Baby Sign Language?

First, thank you to everyone who gave advice about my 8 month old crying recently. That has helped a great deal. I updated that post. As some suggested, yes I have been using sign language with my baby. But he hasn't signed back after 2 months. And it is hard to get his attention especially when he is playing. I've read books on the subject. I'm using online dictionaries. I constantly use words like "eat," "more," milk," "diaper," "bath," "toy," "play," the kinds of toys he has, animals, people like mom and dad, and so on. I use them...

What to Do About Son Acting Out in School

My son started all-day kindergarten this year, and all sorts of issues have arisen since he began. He is normally HIGHLY independent, but also tends to be a very happy boy, cheery, excited about everything. But in just a few months he's started acting out in class, on the playground, and even on the bus. Yesterday he said the S-word in class, and even tried to get a classmate to say it. He was also sat down in P.E. yesterday three times for misbehaving. The weird thing is, he's pretty happy at home (although on days like these he comes...

Daughter Keeps Saying That She's Scared...

My 2 yr. old daughter keeps telling us that she is scared of things. Sometimes, it seems like she is just startled by something, like when one of our cats runs around, but other times it is something bizarre. Last night, as we were reading a new book, there was a tiny picture of a walrus, and she kept saying that she was scared of the walrus. Huh? She has seen pictures of walruses before, and it never freaked her out. She is also scared of puppets, and things on her hands. Since birth, she has never liked her hands covered, so that one...

Single Dad Needing Help with Abc's and Numbers.

So im on mamapedia, and i'm a dad. I really need help from some of yall. I just got custody of my 4 and a half year old daughter who had been secluded by her grandparents in Montana. She has had no interaction with an adult that is willing to teach her until now. I have tried A, B, C, and D for about 10 days now and she can only tell me what A, and C are. Is this normal? I have her grab any letter she wants and then try and tell me what that letter is, and she just cries. She can be in the happiest mood before until i try and teach her what...

Seeking a Preschool

Does anyone have any suggestions for a preschool for my son? I live in the Gilbert area and would like something fairly close. My son is almost 2 1/2 and is not potty trained yet. I am looking for a preschool for him to attend 2-3 times a week. I am looking for something that he can enjoy, have fun, and socialize with other children. I am NOT looking for a daycare. It seems like every "preschool" I look into is actually just a daycare that calls themselves a preschool. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

How to Help My Children Sit Quitely in Church.

I have 2 children Aaron my oldest is 4 years old and Alejandra is 2. I don't expect for them to be 100% silent nor sit for an entire hour and a half, but it's really hard to listen to the preaching when they are laying on floor, talking loud, crying, going under the bench, and taking things out of my diaper bag. I've tired bringing favorite activities, such as books, coloring books, favorite stuff animals, food etc. I've also started time out, but they come back and start all over. I need new Ideas, they will be much appreciated.

3Yo EMBARASSED ME

I took my 3.1 yo to the local library to participate in their storytelling program for the first time. Also, this would be the first "organized" activity that she will be attending. They have different schedules for different age brackets, however i was only able to bring her to the "for all ages" bracket. At first she was very good. She sat with everybody else for about 3 minutes then it was as if she lost her patience and started standing up and jumping in place. At the beginning of the session, the kids had to dance a lil bit as warm up...

Is This Something I Talk with the Teacher About?

She came home today and told me that a lil' boy in her class spit on her during 'circle time' and then again while at recess ...I asked her if she told her teacher and she said "No" she did not b/c there is no talking during circle time and she didn't want to get in trouble. *What a rule follower she is :) Anyway, I have never had any issues with this sort of thing and was wondering if this is something I bring to the teacher's attention...
