11 Month-old Not Pulling up Yet

I am concerned about my 11 month-old not pulling up yet and his overall leg strength.

He crawls (started at 10 mos.), is incredibly social and interactive, babbles a great deal and appears to have good fine motor skills. He does play very often on up on his knees to reach toys. My other two children were always on the later side when it came to gross motor skills but not this late. If I stand him up holding onto a toy he can stay but seems very wobbly. He does have very chubby baby legs with rolls of fat on them so maybe that makes it harder for him?
My pedi said it was okay at his 9 mos. visit but that we would watch it. I even called recently to ask the nurse about it but failed to receive a straight answer and his 1 year visit is a whole month away. Any advice??
Thanks!

Considering he just started crawling at 10 mos I think it may be too soon to worry. After all most babies crawl for a few months before they start trying to walk. He's just progressing at his own pace.

As an infant care teacher I had a baby who didn't walk until he was almost 18 mos old. He was perfectly healthy and active, just a little behind with the walking. He was also a BIG baby and I often wondered if that had something to do with it.

Anyway your sons 1 year appointment is coming up soon, so I wouldn't worry too much until you see your pediatrician. I am sure he is doing just fine and will walk in his own time and be running around before you know it!

I wouldn't worry about it yet either. If everything else is checking out fine, sounds like all is good. I have a feeling I'll be in your shoes soon. My nine month old is not crawling yet and doesn't look like he will be anytime soon. He's just taking his own sweet time. I'm sure your son will get there soon and then you'll be running all over the place after him!

Hi L. D,

Just want to tell you not to worry too much about it. I'm finding out that every baby is different when it comes to their development. I'm a mom to an 11 month old girl, she isn't crawling or walking and she is very thin(I thought because she was thin she didn't have the strength to pull herself up). When she was 6 months old she still couldn't sit up by herself and I told her pedi about my concerns. Her pedi told me she wasn't too concerned about her development, but to reassure me she gave me a couple of numbers to call to get an assessment of her development, she told me it could take a few months before anyone could see her. She was right, they saw her when she was 10 months old, then it took another month before an occupational therapist could come see her. The therapist came to our home to give an assessment; she did a few exercises with her to test her skills. My husband was home for that visit(I was at work). The therapist told my husband that the baby was a couple of months behind on her gross motor skills but was right on target on other things. So we set it up to have the therapist come to our home once a week to work with Alyssa and with us until she's "caught up". She shows us things that we can do to work with Alyssa throughout the week.
Since you are concerned I would ask the pedi to give you some recommendations of specialist that can assess your baby's development. They can tell you if your baby needs any help and your concerns will be put to rest. If your baby needs a little help, at least you'll know and can do something to help him/her.
Hope this was helpful! Have a great week!

My son was late for all of the physical milestones, and we were also worried. But he had a HUGE head like 100%ile in head circumference, whereas he was closer to average in height and weight, so of course it was harder for him to do these things.

My point is, if he has a big head, or is somehow out of balance, don't worry. He'll probably figure how to move his body around eventually. If you're really concerned you could do physical therapy for him. But I think kids just do these things when they are ready. If the doctor has no other concerns about him, I'd just relax and look on the bright side: he's not falling down yet. :)
