11 Weeks Old Teething?

he could be teething. Most babies can teeth for months before they actually get teeth. My 1st daughter had her 2 bottom teeth pop through right at the 4 month mark, by the end of her 4th month she had 4 teeth total (2 on top, 2 on bottom) So he could be getting ready to get teeth in a few months. But I also noticed with my other babies that they started drooling a lot around 3 months and they didn't get teeth until around 6 or 7 months. Also a lot of babies go through a growth spirit in the first month of life then again in month 3. So maybe because he is only 2 months he just isn't growing much and therefore not as hungry.

My daughter had her first tooth at 3 months. She also lost all her front baby teeth both top and bottom before she entered kindergarten. That proves to me the old saying is true. The earlier they get their teeth the earlier they come out.

Well, my son had FOUR teeth by four months. Yes, he was absolutely teething very young. Around 7 weeks, I noticed he was chewing on the bottle instead of sucking. He would chew like crazy on wet washcloths. He had his first tooth around 10 weeks...if I remember correctly. He had his teeth and both sets of molar right after his first birthday. Yes, some children teethe early.

I suspect he's probably having a growth spurt, more then teething. Or, he's just a baby and there is no explanation. They are just like this sometimes!

Some babies tend to eat less when they aren't going through a growth spurt. He could also be sleeping less during the day because he is becoming more alert and interested in things around him. If he gets overtired it will be harder for him to sleep. Also, my pediatrician told me that when a baby's digestive system starts to mature they begin to make a lot more saliva which is what causes them to drool so much. Most babies begin drooling long before they get teeth so that made sense to me.

My daughter was teething as soon as she was born :) She was a very fussy baby and the nurse practicioner said there was no way she could be teething even though she was soothed when I rubbed her gums. She had her first tooth a couple days before she turned two months! Second tooth a week later. She had her 12 year molars in a couple months after turning 10. So, it is possible your son is teething. My husband and I both had our first teeth before 3 months old so ask your parents and dad's parents. Maybe it's genetic?

My doctor said my son was too young when I felt there were signs.
Sure enough two teeth showed up not long after I asked his ped.
So I got wise after that. I used baby orajel for temp relief, baby Tylenol when he really started cutting teeth. Baby Motrin for the molars.
I used teething mesh things w/cold things put in them like ice etc.
I used Hylands teething tablets too.
I tried it all & almost all of it worked.
Try the different things & stay with what works for you.

Btw, it can be a long process so keep doing things to help alleviate the pain. You know your baby best & he will give you cues.

He may have something else going on, but I wouldn't completely assume that he CAN'T be teething, either. Some kids are actually born with some teeth. My son got his first tooth somewhere between 3 and 4 months. It happens. It may not be the "norm" or "typical", but it can happen. Just like some kids don't get teeth until much much later. For instance, my nieces didn't get any teeth until they were approaching their first birthday. Not unheard of, but not "typical" either.

My niece cut her first tooth at 3 weeks!!!

So he definitely CAN be teething... it's just not typical that young.

Put an ice cube into a mesh feeder, and see if he is interested in gumming that... if it IS teething, it will help the pain... if it ISN'T, it won't do anything to him. lol. (frozen wet washcloths work well too...)

I did notice though, that my DD acted like she was teething very young too... but didn't cut her first tooth until she was 7 months old. I swore up and down that she HAD to be teething, because ALL of the symptoms were there... and especially because of my niece's early tooth eruption...but no tooth ever showed up. lol. In retrospect, I now think it was more likely a growth spurt (growing pains hurt! I imagine babies have some pretty uncomfortable moments when they are growing that fast!) or her reflux acting up...

My son started drooling at 2.5 months and cut his first tooth at 3.5 months. He is now 10 months old and has 8 teeth. My daughter on the other hand didn't get her first tooth until she was 6 months old.

I have heard of babies being born with a tooth or two... they can actually start getting them at any age. Most sites and books tell you the average age of doing things. My daughter is just now cutting her first and she is almost 9 months old... I think all my other kids had at least 2 teeth by 6 months. If you think somthing is wrong and you can't wait till the next well check - call the doc and make an appointment... mothers do know best & know their child better then anyone! Also, sometimes kids cut back on eating after a growing spurt & eat a ton during the sput.

I dont think anything is wrong. Babies chance how much they eat and sleep for no reason.

My son drooled like CRAZY! I even started sewing so I could make him bibs absorbant enough for all the drool. From the time he was two months, people said, "Oooh.... He must be teething!" and then followed up with some far fetched story about some random relative that had all their teeth by the time they were 8 months.

By the time my son actually got teeth, we didnt even notice - we were so "done" with worrying about teeth and having people accuse him of teething. :)

He's just about 3 months old, so while it's a little early for actual teething it's not too early for the teeth inside his gums to be moving around and grinding.

However, if your indicator is only how many ounces of formula he's eating, then no it's not teething. He's probably just not very hungry. As long as he's gaining weight and thriving he's getting enough. I don't think my kids took 8 ounce bottles until they were at least 6 or 7 months old. I'm almost certain of it.

You have to remember that his stomach is only the size of his fist. He should be eating every two to four hours, not every five. He's still so tiny. Stretching it to five is a long time, and expecting his tiny, fist-sized stomach to hold 8 ounces is a lot.

My doctor said the same thing, that although not unheard of, two months was too early to worry about teething. By our third month check up my son had two fully erupted teeth on the bottom and you could see two teeth on the top about to come out...that made nursing fun for a while! His pediatrician was surprised and even apologized to me. My daughter also had two teeth by three months.

Probably too young...... 4 oz is fine.

Not too young. It's unusual this early, but not unheard of. My niece is 3 months old and is starting to teeth. My little guy didn't get his first tooth until 11 months!
