Hello,
My daughter has had so many ear infections. I know it has effected her speech and I just feel so bad for her. She has been on antibiotics 6 times this year. I am taking her today and I think she is still infected. I cant get an appointment with an ENT for one month. I am so frustrated and sad. I hate to see her so upset. Dies anyone have any advice or recommend an ENT they love?
Thanks!
J.
Wow Ladies!
Thank you so much for your responses! I really appreciate them. I probably should have given you more background. My daughter does see a fabulous chiropractor, gets other body work and is scheduled to have cranial sacral work done next week. I am a HUGE fan of natural medicine. I give her echinacea , probiotics, vit C, teatree oil, and she has seen a homeopath! She also does not drink milk. I will continue this treatment and I think I need to goto the next step with an ENT. She has had the test done where they measure the sound off her eardrum and she has flat lined on both ears twice meaning she is not hearing much at all because of the fluid even when her ears are not infected.
Yesterday I went back to the ped and they are trying to help me to get into a specialist earlier. I will update this again when I find out more.
Does anyone know anything about Dr Iannuzzi or DR Galoney in Wesley? Thanks!

He took out my daughters Adnoids and Tonsils at age
2 1/2... great doctor!
I actually have an appointment with him next week!
One month isn't a bad wait time.... Call periodically and see if they get a cancellation (if you can be flexible). I don't know where you are, but Children's Hospital (Boston/Waltham, etc...) has a good team. Make the appointment for a time when your child won't be hungry, tired, etc... if possible as wait times can be a little trying! Good luck. The under 2 set is no fun with an ear infection! P.S I pump my kids full of yogurt when they're sick or on antibiotics. I think it helps!
Hi J.,
My recommendation is for an alternative. Obviously antibiotics are not working. I would strongly consider seeing a chiropractor. My husband is one and has seen dozens of children recover from ear infections and not get another one! It's hard for me to believe, but even with all of the studies out there and the overwhelming evidence of adjustments helping these pore kids, parents still won't consider seeing a chiropractic professional! My son has been getting adjustments since birth (he's 7) and he has never in his life had an ear infection. I can't think of many children he plays with that have never had one.
Please consider this alternative for your daughter.

Hi J.
my daughter who is now 3 also had the same issue since she was 6 months old. She was on constant antibiotics, which I am not a fan of a kid being on that many months and was fussy, her speech was slow. We had tubes put in her ears when she was a year. Since then she has had no ear infections or even sick. The tubes were a 10 minute surgery and we have had no issues and she gets check ups every 4 months. Your ENT will probably talk to you about this as an option.
Good Luck
Kristina
I would highly recommend Mass. Ear and Eye Infirmary in Boston (part of MGH). I like Dr. Stacey Gray but not sure if she sees kids.
Have you tried removing commmon allergens like dairy from her diet to see if that helps? I also say ditto to the chiropractor and other natural rememdies - antibiotics are a useless cycle.
Dr Bhatt in Chelmsford is awesome with kids : ) He did a tonsil reduction and removed my daughter's adenoid when she was 2 and a half.
We don't use an ENT because no one gets ear infections. Have you considered alternative nutritional supplements to prevent this problem and the constant cycle of antibiotics and misery? You would want a patented product safe for babies and children, liquid, bioavailable (readily absorbed), and PATENTED so you know it contains the ingredients it says on the label. My friends and work colleagues have all avoided ear infections and ear tube surgery in their children by doing this. You could start this nutrition and still consult with an ENT if you choose. What do you have to lose? I'd be happy to share.
I agree that all those rounds of antibiotics don't seem to be getting to the root of the problem. That said, "alternative methods" may not work either.....especially if there are structural problems within the ear. Only an ENT can uncover those problems and resolve them. Also, a month isn't long at all to wait to see a specialist. Good Luck to you!
I absolutely love my daughter's ENT. His name is Doctor Mark Volk, and he is with Children's Hospital Boston. We actually see him in Lexington right off 128, and he also goes to Newton Wellesley Hospital. Children's Hospital has satellites in at least those three locations. My daughter has special needs, and we have been with Dr. Volk since she was a baby. She is now 17. He is a loving, caring man who is dedicated to his patients.
The phone number for Lexington is ###-###-####. I would call and speak to a human. If you can't get an appt sooner, I would contact Boston and check there. If all else fails, ask to speak with him and see if he can fit you in sooner. If you express your concerns regarding your daughter's speech, I am sure he will help you.
Dr. Hubbell in Burlington VT is good. Not sure where you are.
Two of my kids had tubes. They had been on one cycle after another of antibiotics. They had the tubes put in and never had another ear infection again. My six year old's tubes fell out when he was three and he has not had any problems since. My almost four year old had his fall out at 2 1/2 and he has also been ear infection free. Make sure whatever you decide to try you speak with your pedi or ENT first. Be careful about all advice that you receive from everybody. Always run everything by your doctor before you try it. You don't want to prolong your daughter's infection. Frequent ear infections can damage a child's hearing. I have seen it in more than one child. Alternative medicine is wonderful, but not in all cases. Your pediatrician would know best about what is best for your daughter's specific case.
We used Dr. Greg Licameli with Children's Hospital, Boston. He sees patients (and does surgery) at their satellite locations, in Waltham and Lexington, as well. If you're flexible in going to one of those locations, you can get an appointment more quickly. He was great and did 2 of my children on the same day. I have no regrets. I hated the constant rounds of antibiotics and sleepless nights we dealt with before the surgery. Afterwards, we had none of that. It was a 10 minute procedure in the a.m. and after lots of cuddling and rest, they were both up playing later the very same day! Best of luck to you.
My daughter sees Dr. Reza Rahbar at Children's Hospital in Boston and he has placed three sets of ear tubes for her all with great results. (They eventually fall out and have to be replaced if the ear infections start up again.) He also sees patients in Lexington and Waltham. He has a wonderful bedside manner - very calm and soothing and very interested in seeing your child feel better. Perhaps your pediatrician can assist you in getting an earlier appointment.
I don't know where you live but Dr. James Batti put tubes in my sons ears. They fell out after 2 years and thankfully didn't need a new set. He also never had another ear infection. Dr. Batti is in Hartford CT at CCMC but he sees patients in Glastonbury for office visits (which I recommend because the wait at the hospital stinks). But his surgery was at the hospital and went just fine.
Good luck!

Dr. Batti at Ct Childrens hospital~fabulous!!!!!!!!!
I'm sorry to hear about your daughter's infections! I am and RN and I used to work in Pediatrics at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary for about 5 years. I always said if I ever needed to - I would take my daughter to Dr. Michael Cunningham. He's wonderful and has fantastic bedside manners. All the parents loved him - I've never seen such a thorough surgeon. Good Luck!
J.,
I don't have an ENT but I just wanted to tell you about a little boy my daughter plays with who is having similar issues. He is always congested and with fluid in his ears. He luckily didn't get infections but it has effected his hearing as well. He is getting tubes put in his ears to help with the draining. But because the little boy is delayed in his speak (15 months old) he is getting EI services for speak theropy. You can have your daughter tested for EI services and if she qualifies she can get services to help her catch up. I don't think she will be behind for long once she can hear better and if she gets services she will surely catch up quick.
You can call your insurance company for ENT's in the area or even ask your PCP if the ped's aren't helping with the selection.
Good luck,
L. M
I'd take her to a Naturopathic doctor. Google one in your area. It might be her immune system that needs boosting. They can be very helpful for longterm improvement. Quick fix antibiotics have not proven here to be the answer for her. In fact, they can even do more harm than good. I have 4 children. I did not give them antibiotics for ear infections or any other ailments and they did not return. It was years before I'd even see any signs of them again. I can make some suggestions, but it's better for her to be checked out by the Naturopathic doctor first. They will tell you if you need an ENT too.
Good Luck!

Hello,
Bring your daughter to a chiropractor. The ear infections will go away for good... no more antibiotics and she will not need ear tubes... which fall out anyway. It will also improve her immune system dramatically. Please just give it a try.

My son sees Dr. Amin at Children's Hospital in Boston. We LOVE her!
Dr. Snyder in Londonderry is AWESOME, and I don't think I had to wait a month for an appointment.
I'm not sure where you are located, but my daughter (when she was younger) went to Dr. Pamela Dana, and we loved her, I believe she is still located in Attleboro, MA.
