Hi Everyone,
My 2 year old twin just got their 18 month shots a week ago today. As of yesterday they have been vomiting with diarrhea and fever (101-102). Everyone says its not the shots, but every time they have gotten shots they get sick??? I just wanted to see if anyone has had the same experience, or could it possibly be a virus?

What can I do next?

Yes, it is their shots. Your babies have been introduced to a foreign matter which is designed to push their bodies to be able to recognize it if it ever comes around again. Immunizations can make you ill and some more than others. This is why you should NEVER let your baby get shots while their immune system has been compromised. Also, after shots, do not put them in a situation where their fragile immune systems can be further taxed. Feed them well, no sugar or juices. Let them get plenty of rest, no traveling or changes of schedules. Also, if your baby does get sick, you must notify your doctor and the doctors must make note of this on your babies chart. Check the Center for Disease Control (CDC)and see if your doctor should make them aware as well. Take care of your children and remember that you are the Momma, you know your babies best!
Good Luck!

You should call the doctor's office immediately and tell them. My doctor always gives me very specific instructions on what sort of possible side effects to look for and to call the office if a fever should occur. However, if it truly the shots, the fever/illness should occur within a couple of days, not after a week. Nonetheless, I would still call the office.

Kara, Our now nine month old had a reaction to the shots at eight weeks and ended up in the hospital for three days but there was no conclusive evidence that it was the shots but sigh, reality is that it was definitely a catalyst in our situation. So that said, I have done lots of research and some literature argues and even the CDC shot info sheet we got on the individual shots that there can be a reaction up to a week post the shots...I would check the info CDC shot sheet that they give you at each shot visit just to double check the info cause I am not a doc...good luck though and I hope that the twins are okay.

Dear Kara:
I also believed "everyone" (especially pediatricians and books written by nationally known and respected pediatric experts) when my baby boy was getting ill after his shots, until I learned about the true side-effects and dangers of immunizations. There are many resources available (websites, chiropractors, Homefirst Family Physicians) which will educate you about this crucial issue with such grave consequences to our precious children's health! Feel free to contact me if you like... Like a couple of other moms said - trust your mommy instincts, they are there to protect your babies!

if i sold rocks, i would pay for a study to see if rocks caused damage to the head if a rock was thrown against it. once my study that i paid for was complete, it would obvioulsy say that if there was any damage to the head, it must have happened when the person hit the ground.

Possibly the shots, or possible that they picked up something from a sick child while at the doctor's office? At any rate, you should call your doc.
