1St Birthday Party Favor - Personalized Foam Door hanger...is It Lame?

I went to a party where there was a basket of board books that were given away as party favors when everyone was leaving. The mom host held the basket of books at the door while she said good-bye and each child got a book to take home with them. My daughter was old enough to pick out one she liked from the basket herself but many of the children were so young mom and dad picked out a book for them. My daughter took that book to bed with her every night for weeks so it was a big hit.

She had a few non board books for the older kids to choose from but most of the guests were under three.

Good idea. You must remember the days when you put "stuff" on your door so everyone would know that this was "YOUR ROOM". OK and I happen to love anyone who gives out Rice Krispie treats.

For my nephews birthday they did foam door hangers in a bag with foam flower stickers for the girls and foam car stickers for the boys. My nephew loved it because it was a craft he did at home after the party and he always tells me where he got it from when I visit:)

OK - why do kids ages 3-6 months need party favors - they don't even know what's going on...have we gone crazy as a society or what? Here's a crazy idea - after the party, write a thank you note and mail it. Like people used to do in olden days...sorry - don't mean to sound snarky, but really? (insert Seth and Amy Really???? bit from Saturday night live) ;)

Like it and the book basket idea ( a little less work for mom). My experience is the (older) kids will be disappointed if they don't get a little candy/sweet but the Rice Krispie treat should do the trick - have fun!

I really like the photo and book ideas. My kids love seeing pictures of themselves with their friends.

I always stress a little on favors/goody bags. But my kids, 3 and 5, are always happy with whatever they get in their goody bag, no matter how lame it is, because to them it's not lame. If you have the time, I would have each guest make their door hanger and you have a craft at the same time. Another idea that I've heard of (never tried) is decorating a frame and then sending a photo with the thank you card (unless you can print them before the party is over).

I like it. For my son's first birthday I went to Michael's crafts and bought some pre-painted flat wooden animal shapes. (Turtles, alligators, dogs, etc.) They were less than $1. I simply put a magnet on the back and wrote "First birthday" and the date. On the front I wrote the child's name in permanent marker. Cute, easy, and useful.

The parents loved it and many still have them on their fridges!

I think it's really cute! My friend's son just turned one and they gave teh foam frames with his picture in it. we gave baseball bats because we did a baseball theme. Kites are good too. Happy birthday to your little one!

you know what looks nice too, are wooden door plaques. the craft stores sell wooden rectangles for about a dollar and you can accessorize them with prepainted wooden decals (also sold there for about $.50). and then use a paint pen to paint their name on. I sell a lot of these through my craft business. also personalized journals are a cute idea adn popular.

My daughter is three and she LOVES anything with her name on it. She would be thrilled to get a personalized door hanger. In fact, she got one at daycare when she was 18 months, and she still has it up and likes to look at it and touch the letters. So I vote: good idea.
