My 2.5 yr old is the same way. This was fine before when I was working FT but now am at home thanks to baby #2's arrival and am probably not going back for a while. I have tried shortening his nap (which is usually 2 hrs), earlier naps, later naps, later bedtimes, but I think I have an early riser on my hands and that's how it's going to be. Sometimes he gets up at 6 or so, gosh I feel like I have been able to sleep in forever on those mornings! When he is up at 5 we do bring him in our bed, sometimes he will fall back asleep, other times we'll turn on TV and he'll snuggle quietly for an hour or so. Sometimes he is just ready to rock and roll at 5am and I agree, it's killer! Look forward to any other advice that others have on this!
