One factor might be too, starting at about 3 years old their backs straighten out, therefore, bellies dont stick out so much. I noticed that in my daughter. Keep up the great diet!! Healthy eating and leading by example will go a long way!
Hi everyone, this probably sounds a little wierd. But my daughter seems to have a fat little pot belly. She has average sized legs and arms and even waist, but her belly sticks out and I have relatives telling me that she eats too much, or asking what Im feeding her, and saying to be careful that she doesnt become "overweight". It upsets me because it makes me worry that maybe she is at risk of overweight, my husband has a son on the heavy side. She has always been at the 95th percentile for height AND weight. When she was born at 35 weeks, pre term, she was 7 1/2 pounds!!! She weighs 31 pounds with clothes and shoes on and she is in a size 3t. And its funny because sometimes her pants are at 3t but I have to buy a 4t shirt sometimes to cover her little pot belly! Her diet is pretty average, she loves ALOT of healthy foods such as apples, cheese, chicken, eggs, TOMATOES, cucumber etc... And I rarely will get her a "happy meal". Has anyone ever had a child with a protruding belly, and are they having issues with being "overweight"? Thanks for the advice! :)

well your doughter sounds like my son. he was 7lbs 2 oz at birth and was 21 inches long. he was always right at the top of the charts for hieght and weight. he is 4 and he weighs 52 lbs. he has a belly and thats about it. i think it is normal and the doctor has no concearns. i think they will grow out of it as they get older. i really wouldn't be concearned at her age. best of luck
Congrats B. on making Dean's List!!!!
As for your daughter, it is so normal for a child of that age to have a pot belly.....ever hear of "baby fat"? All of my kids seemed to be out of proportion when they were 2 also, don't worry, it's normal. You are on the right step to ensure that your child is healthy by feeding her only healthier foods and avoiding "Happy Meals". Also birth weight doesn't determine size later in life.....but Thank God you did have her earlier........I would venture to guess that just the dates were off, rather than she was born "early". My son, now 17, was my largest at birth (until my youngest was born, long after I thought I ws through), he was 7lbs 11ozs and 21 and 1/2 inches long.....he also ended up being the smallest in his school all throughout life, so please don't rely heavily on that. And being in the 95th percentile isn't bad either......it's when they are "off the charts" that you have to start to worry. Shopping for size 3t at this age is also normal......when they get in that age range, the norm is to shop for sizes double their age. So, from what you describe, your daughter is right on target!!! If your pediatrician didn't say that your daughter was overweight, please don't stress! Trust me, as she grows, they'll be plenty of time for stressing!!!! LOL!
definitely normal, if you are still uncomfortable talk to your pediatrician, but like the other responses, dont be too concerned. It's very normal. Your baby probably likes to run and play and as long as shes active, I would'nt be too worried!
