2Yo Pees Very Often

How often should a 2yo be urinating? My daughter pees ALL the time. At LEAST every 30 mins but sometimes she will go on the floor, go again in the potty then 3 mins later go on the floor again. Does she have an overactive bladder that she just can't control?
One mom asked if I am potty training, yes I have been trying to get her to train since she was 8 mos old. I think she is right about not emptying her bladder, how do I make her do that?

What can I do next?

Maybe if she has a low potty that forces her to squat she'll be more likely to empty herself all the way. We had a baby bjorn little potty (they had 2 sizes, this is a very small, low, simple one). good ergonomics for elimination.

Frequent urination is one symptom of juvenile diabetes - it could be MANY other things but I would go to a doctor to rule out medical problems.

Does she drink a lot too? Any history of Diabetes on the family. Maybe you should have her blood sugar checked.

I potty trained my 2 year old in 3 days. I didn't leave the house for 3 days either so be prepared! LOL! I set the timer on the oven to go off every 30 minutes from the time she woke up. And every 30 minutes, took her to the bathroom. She usually was able to go, even just a little at times. By day 2, she would hear the alarm and say "time to go potty, Mommy!". By day 3, I turned off the alarm in the afternoon and it seemed like her body new that every half hour we run to the potty. She would go every 20 - 30 minutes at school from then on. She's four now and she can hold it for long intervals, so every 30 minutes doesn't last forever. Although she does seem to HAVE TO GO whenever we go ANYWHERE! LOL! Hope this helps!

Hi J.,
This sounds like something that should be discussed with her pediatrician.
Are you currently potty training her or has she been potty trained for some time already? The only thing I can think of is if you're currently training her and she you are using the reward method to train her. I only gave rewards when my daughter went #2 in the potty, but if you are giving her rewards just for peeing she could be going excessively just to get a treat. The accidents I would think could just be a result of her not being fully trained yet. And if she's not fully draining her bladder so she can keep going on the potty than it could lead to accidents too.
That is just my theory based on my guess at her being in the midst of potty training though. As I mentioned initially though, I would definitely discuss it with her pediatrician.
Good luck!

She is fine.

Keep a diaper on her or a pull up. Put a timer on for every 20 minutes. Take her to the potty. Keep potty training her. She will be fine, as long as you are loving and sweet to her.

Potty training can take time, and it can be a headache. Just remember she has only been in this world for 2 years. She is learning.

Best wishes to you and your family.

Enjoy your little one.

I think she may have anxiety about it. 8 months is way to early to be potty training. TAke her to a pediatric urologist and get her checked out. Most likely everything is fine but there is a psychological condition ( I can't remember the name offhand) where the child will go very often because the bladder is actually spasming. It might be called polykiuria or something like that. Also she needs blood work for possible diabetes.

You've been trying to potty train her since she was 8mo? That likely was far too young. So instead of learning good potty habits, she's had 16 months of constant accidents and the idea of going to the potty anytime she needs to pee, well, that just has never really part of her thinking.

It sounds like, if she's actually ready now to potty train, that you need to start completely fresh. You can't base her continued training on the chaos of the training attempts you've been doing for the last year or more.

I would suggest doing the 3 day training with her and really focus. She is little still and is going to pee quite often...much moreso than you would for example. If she's really peeing every few minutes I would take her to see her pediatrician...but I'd also take that as a sign that she isn't really ready to potty train.

her doctor needs to check her for a bladder infection, before you do anything else.
