My son is 3 1/2 years old. He has been potty trained for a little less then a year and he loves to go potty, but lately in the last two weeks he has started wetting his pants. He will go potty but 5 minutes later he is wet again. I have talked to him and put him in time out but it is not working. He will go poopie in the potty with no problem. He just seems to be peeing a lot. I took him to his doctor and she did a sugar check in him and that was good. I just don't know if this is a phase he is going through or if something is going wrong with him. I don't want to punish him and make it worse. He has been in and out of the hospital and in the picu twice in three weeks with asthma. The doctors found out he has sever acid reflux and they have him on 5 meds every day for asthma and acid reflux, and I don't know if that could have anything to do with it.If anyone has had this problem I would love to know how you fixed it or if this is just something he will out grow.

What can I do next?

Hi! You mentioned your son had his sugar checked. Did you have a urologist check him? The urologist could confirm whether the medication is giving him bladder problems as well.
good luck

have you tried cheerios... put a cheerio in the potty and have him aim at it... kinda like a game... my friend did that and it worked pretty good.

I just wanted to add from what Jennifer said......did the Dr check him for a UTI when he checked his sugar level? Certain meds can cause things like that or if when he was in the Picu, did he have a cathadar in? That can also cause aggravation to the urine tract or cause UTIs. Hope your little guy starts feeling better and gets back to normal soon!!

Ask for a urinalysis and culture. My son strated peeing a lot around Christmas and his urinalysis was always normal and I was given a perscription for detrol. I was almost sure it was an infection so I insisted on a culture 3 week late I got it and he had an infection. He was treated for 3 days with an antibiotic and it was gone.

Hi there has he been drinking alot of drinks with Caffeine? If so try to cut back on them. My daughter NEVER drank soda (she doesn't like them.) Then she REALLY got into Soy milk. I let her try the Chocolate one, and she was hooked. She was always asking for her soy milk. I let her drank it alot (since its healthy, but I forgot choc. has caffenine in it)Then she started to pee her pants (and she was 4 and potty trained since 17 months) I finally took her to the doctor, where I was told that caffeine, weakens the bladders abilty to hold urine. Good luck

I have never personally delt with this sort of thing, but that is ALOT of meds he is on. ( the 5 kinds you mentioned) Maybe talk to his dr and see if the meds have anything to do with it? Also, in and out of picu is stress...stress can make any of us at any age do things that are out of the norm. I don't know if punishing him is the right thing...he may not be able to help it right now. My best to you....I know it is hard when we think there is something wrong with our kids. Been through it, just not with this exact problem :-)
