Free health department vs. the convenient CVS....many people will pay for it instead of going to the health department.
My hubby was driiving by a CVS the other day and they had an ad for flu shots for $29.99. I know last year they were only $20. Still I don't understand why people would pay for flu shots. I know here in Indiana you can get a list at your doctors office of different times and locations to get a free flu shot in your county. I live in a small area but there are about 10 different times and locations on various dates where you can get them. Does not every state offer this? I should specify that these are done through the county health department.
B.P. : This is a FREE flu shot. it doesn't matter if you have insurance. My family doesnt.
I guess I am lucky we can get them free, and I live in a small community (surronded by other small communities) and there isn't much of a line.

i think in MA theres something like that i believe its only free for senior citizens....and like 15 or 20 for everyone else.....dont quote me on that tho i could be wrong its happened before lol
I am not surprised, although that seems to be the highest price I have seen. I think Walgreens in our area offers them for $25. My husband's company offers flu shots to all their employees and families. They cost $20-the company pays $15 and the employees pay the remaining $5 for each shot. We just got ours yesterday.

Our state does for lower income. But, it's usually far away (This year I saw it in Tacoma, which is about an hour or so south of here) and it's from certain times like 1-3. It's just easier to pay the $30 I think

I am in Plano/Allen Texas, northern burb of Dallas.
I see advertising all the time for $25.
I've never seen FREE flu shots. Maybe they have that at the homeless shelters or something.
I've also never heard of free flu shots - my family gets them at our pediatricans office and they bill our insurance company, which covers the cost.
Our country does them for around $15, or less if you have no insurance and go straight to the health dept. But there are plenty of places to get them for free as well.
I've seen as high as $36. That's not the norm, but I've seen it. I can get a flu shot free at school this year (as a teacher), but this is the first year it's been free. Usually I pay $25 for myself and for each of my children. I've never seen flu shots advertised as free.
Ours around here are $30 if you pay out of pocket...and they were $30 last year as well.
You can find a free clinic if you want to...or get them from your doctors office.
Our state only does free flu shots for certain populations of people. Even the $30 ones are state subsidized... because a flu shot out of pocket expense is between $100 & $300 dollars. Most pharmacies only charge $10-$50 for them because they're getting state public health grants that subsidize their costs. The free ones are TOTALLY paid for by the state. As the state has less and less money allocated for public health UP go the costs. Ditto, the costs go up if it's a "combo" shot, which happens when there are several virulent strains running around.
isn't it the regular flu shot and the H1N1 together this year? Could explain the extra $$
$30 is the best price I have seen around me but NJ had a higher cost of living than IN (I went to school there).
Not every town/state offers this. As far as I know there are no free flu clinics in my neck of the woods. Flu shots are $35. Pneumonia shots are around $65. People pay for flu shots as a preventative measure. Not everyone has insurance and not all insurances cover vaccinations.
Not everyone has insurance. Our town does offer them for about 20 dollars but that is just 1 day. There is no where around us offering free flu shots unless you are on NJ Family Care. I guess in your area 30 dollar CVS flu shots don't make sense.
Try Walgreens. I think there's is $20. If you can't find it free.
That seems to be on the pricey side... a few weeks ago when I was at sams club they were offering them for $20 for those without insurance.
I went last year to the countys free flu shots for all....there were at least 500 people waiting for their free flu shot. The wait was more than 2hours. To me it was not worth the wait, it was worth paying the $20 somewhere. Rather than stand outside in a long line full of people, many who are smoking, & their are only so many free doses availble. Could you imagine standing in line for hours to get a free flu shot and than they run out and you are out of luck? Not worth it at all!
I think the health department does them here too.
I guess some people don't mind paying extra for the convenience of "popping by" any time & getting that flu shot off of their "to do" list!
I've never gotten a flu shot.
They're free at the health dept. here too (regardless of insurance status), but many pay for convenience. Hubby and I are lucky - we get them free at work and free cards for the kids to use anywhere -CVS, Walgreen's or their doctor.
