I had my husbands 30th birthday and my baby shower in the banquet room at the Hamlin Pub in Shelby Twp. at 25 Mile and VanDyke. It was inexpensive and beautiful
I am looking for a place to hold my husbands surprise 30th birthday party, but don't want to spend a TON of money. I am looking at having around 50 people there. Any idea's?

I am not suer of the prices but here are a few suggestions
CJ Barrymores - we had two surprise 30ths here
Dave and Busters
Metro Beach - could get a few party subs, chips, pop and BYOB
Stony Beach
Whirlyball - they have one in clinton twp and this one http://www.maxxwhirlyball.com/ - this is so much fun.
Hi S.,
Dave and Busters sounds really good, then people can do what they want, walk around etc.
Also, have you been to Dougan's before? It is at Woodward and 13 mile and they have rooms you can book for free. We threw my friends surprise bridal shower there...about 30 people and just ordered a couple of there BIG apps tray (sooooo good) and pitchers of beer. Then if people wanted dinner or other drinks it was on them! You could do that at any bar/restaurant though!
Have fun and good luck!!
S. :)
I had my parent's suprise 30th wedding anniversary at Penna's (near Lakeside) a few years back in their back room where the Bocce Ball courts are. You can limit the menu or just do unlimited salad, pizza, and pasta. It was great! We had the whole place (Bocce Ball room) to ourselves and that was fun.
I had my husbands surprise 30th at Snookers Pool and Pub on M59 in Utica by Lakeside. It's right in front of Best Buy. They had a separate area for us with 2 pool tables to use. They took care of all of the food and pitchers of the drinks. It was more reasonable than Dave and Busters but still had the pool tables and other games to keep people busy. Everyone was happy. I know they have a few locations around Detroit. Good Luck!
Call local restaurants, bars, etc to see if they'll reserve a space that large for you. Some will put out an appetizer buffet which will be cheaper than serving dinner. You might also check into a place like Dave and Busters. They have food, drinks and are kid friendly.
Or, perhaps you could do it at your house and send him on a "guys night" as a decoy. You could have some simple catering.
Hi S., I noticed you had a suggestion for Dave and Busters. I had my baby shower at Dave and Busters and it was great! The food was awesome and the private room was awesome. I did notice once that they put coverings on a section to cover a bunch of pool tables and they set up a buffet. It looked like a lot of fun. My girlfriend has a restaurant called The Cutting Board it is on Schoenherr just south of 12 mile. It's a beautiful elegant place and her prices are very reasonable. So if you're going for a more quiet intimate thing that's a great place.
Have you ever been to Dave and Busters? If they had a private room that would be an awesome birthday party for 30 :)
I had my husbands @ Dave and Busters. People didn't feel tied down to a confind area. I rented a room, We just had cake and ice cream.I had put that on the invites, and spoke to everyone by phone and let them know they could order but we were just doing the cake. It went great! Our friends didn't mind. We all had a great time with the car raceing and other games. Hope this gives you another route to go. Hope it goes great!
