I am 36 weeks pregnant and very nauseus all of a sudden. I didn't have this with my first pregnancy. I want to know if this is normal? Did anyone else get this and what did you do for it?

What can I do next?

Yes, at 9 months pregnant the nausea returned. My Ob/Gyn said the same hormones from the first trimester return. Hope you feel better soon...congrats!

Are you nauseous recently? Like just the last day or two? Nausea that starts and eventually stops (2-4 days) is usually linked to "bad food". I don't mean full-blown food poisoning here...I mean eating something that was just slightly off.

If the nausea is sticking with you -- Maybe your body is preparing for labor or maybe it is just that your baby is starting to take up a lot of space. With your stomach and intestines getting the squeeze, you may want to switch to smaller, slower meals.

I have read that it is normal to feel nauseous at any point in pregnancy. Every woman is different and every pregnancy is different, so don't worry if you didn't have this the first time. I would imagine that at 36 weeks your baby is big enough to put a lot of pressure on your stomach, which could result in nausea. I had the worst heartburn because of this. In early pregnancy, increases hormones are commonly blamed for nausea, and at the end of pregnancy the level of the hormone progesterone is very high, so that could do it too.
Ways to combat nausea:
- drink water with lemon slices or smell lemon slices when you feel nausea.
- drink water or hot water with raw ginger root or with a ginger tincture. Gingerale may also help.
- increase your intake of vitamin B6 (about 25 mg every 8 hours). See http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2047064 for info on a study showing effectiveness of B6.
- eat small snacks frequently to keep your somach from being empty.

Hope you feel better soon!

I was sick everyday, all day long, until I was 8 months pregnant. Oh my gosh I felt such relief not to be throwing up multiple tmes a day. Then, at the beginning of my 9th month I started throwing up again. Oh it frusterated me. It didn't last long though, because I delievered 4 weeks early. I hope you feel better soon!

Hi SJ, My first pregnancy I was sick once every morning for 4 months. My second, I was sick the ENTIRE pregnancy. Ginger ale, bland crackers helped. If it's when you first wake up, try to eat a few crackers before you get out of bed. Also, what really, really helped me (especially when I was out at the store or wherever) was these little candies called Preggie pop drops. They're like little small candies, but they took the nausea away almost immediately. I kept some in the car, in my purse, and they were great. Congratulations, you're in the home stretch. Soon you'll be holding your new little addition and the nausea will be a memory :o)

Ugh this bring me back to my pregnancy. I was sick from 3 weeks till the day I gave birth. I had two due dates. Our original that we had before the ultrasound and then they found out that he was to small for the dates (not anymore! He's in the 95% or off the charts) Anywho. I agree with Kaye S. My nausea slightly subsided during the last three months (only slightly) then came back with a vengeance a week before O was born. Cross our fingers everything goes as planned for you! and soon to be congrats!!

Don't be surprised if you go into labor soon! Flu like symptoms that appear out of nowhere are often an impending sign of labor. They were with me, and a few other friends every time!

Prego-pops (easy to get at the maternity clothing stores) or candied ginger (easy to get a natural foods store).
