And the Nausea Begins...

Well I just found out I am prego with #4 yesterday and it hits me that I have been nausous(sp) for weeks and thought it was from nerves...NOPE. I should have known. What helps? I tried these drops I got at the Motherhood Maternity Store for my last pregnancy(never got sick with the first 2) and they didn't really help. Crackers and ginger ale were also a bust. It is worse at night(wich I kept assuming was because my husband was home and he is the sorce of my stress and nerves). So Mama's what helped you?

What can I do next?

Vitamin B6 was my lifesaver. I felt nausea for the first two months of my pregnancy. After I tried the B6 it went away completely. HTH.

Lemonheads... YES! The candy! :) It is my #1 recommendation to get rid of the queasies! The aroma of lemon oil helps wave off nausea. Lemon heads have this and I would suck on them when preggo with #2 when the nausea got unbearable and they really helped. Another thing that helped was caffeine free Coke.

Sea Bands!!! You can find them at your local drugstore. They sound like a farce, but they worked for me. I wore those things 24/7! I would say as hard as it sounds to do, but keeping a little food in your stomach all day is better than going hours between meals. Try some toast or grits (yes I'm southern). That always was bland enough to not make me gag just smelling it! Congrats and good luck!

protein every 30-45 minutes. a hand ful of almonds, hummus, yogurt, spoon of peanut butter, beans, etc. made a world of difference-- i just needed a bite or two to tide me over.

candied ginger, real ginger ale (not the artificially flavored stuff-- try the ginger beer--it's non alcoholic of course) really strong food-- hot and spicy, sour, indian, thai, etc. it helped for me.

This is what worked for me . I didn't drink with food. I had to wait for maybe 20 minutes to have water .Crackers didn't work for me either but bread did. Before bed I would have an apple ,yoghurt or both . Then I would have my prenatal vitamins about 20 minutes later . Also, eat small meals every 2-3 hours . It really helps. Some people eat lemon drops or ginger candy . Keep trying to find out what works or doesn't work for you . the only salad dressing I could eat was ranch . My daughter lives on it. Hang in there :)

what helped me was having a bowl of oatmeal before bed, so my stomach never got really empty overnight.

I was nauseus for 7 months of my pregnancy- taking a B6 vitamin with 1/2 a unisom before I went to bed at night took the edge off. didn't cure it but made it bearable.

Sadly the other thing that made the nausea bearable was eating- anything- so I packed on 80lbs eating peanutbutter and celery. Watch out!

Gingerale didn't help me either, but lemonade did. I also used to put a slice of lemon in a plastic bag and carry it in my purse! It sounds weird, but if I smelled something (other people's lunches in the office) that make me feel sick, I would smell the lemon and it made me feel better. Caffeine-free coke was good too but I had to have it with ice and just sip it. It's gross, but I also used to carry plastic bags with me in case I had to throw up in the car! I never did, thankfully, but it actually made me feel more calm (and less nauseated) to know that if that happened I would at least be prepared.

Seabands seemed to help a little too. The biggest thing for me was to just keep eating little snacks all day long and no big meals. If I got busy at work and forgot to eat I would feel REALLY sick. Low-fat stuff was best for me - really lean ground turkey in pasta sauce or low-fat turkey with crackers. Cashew butter or other nut butters were good too. I think the protein really helped me more than the carbs. I usually would eat wholegrain stuff but it made me sick - I ate a lot of plain Bisquick mix biscuits and pancakes during the first trimester too. I knew they weren't as healthy, but I could keep them down.

I remember that feeling of being sick SO clearly. I would rather gone through twice as much labor than have morning sickness!! Rest of course helps if you can get it and my doctor also gave me a B vitamin to take but I forget which one. I'm sure you'd want to ask your doc anyway. GOOD LUCK!

Actually, the stress and nerves can really be contributing to it! If you can find a way to relax in the afternoon so you're ready to deal with your husband, maybe it will ease off.

The other thing that helped me was chewing gum. I really couldn't stand the thought of eating something most of the time, but chewing gum seemed to help, at least a bit.

I swear by altoids and lemonade (not at the same time). Eating more often helps me as well. This time around I feel alright, with my 7 month old, I don't think I moved off the couch for 3 months, and that was after the doctor wrote me and Rx for the nausea.

Ask your doc. I was prescribed phenegran because I just couldn't function with my nausea combined with headaches and the fatigue. It made me sleepy so I took it an hour before bed and it took about 2 days to get in my system and after that everything was so much more tolerable! I just took it a week or so then I was ok. I know its best to go no meds and all that but my goodness I couldn't get out of bed! Im sorry you feel bad and I hope it gets better but in the meantime ask for help. There's no harm in that!

I feel your pain. I was SO sick w/ my 1st. I threw up ALL the time ~ if I drank anything (even water), ate, even the smell of food cooking OR when it was done cooking. At 1 point I called my dr. in a complete panic ~ my urine was bright orange! I thought something was wrong w/ the baby & there was blood in my urine. It turns out that I was super dehydrated from trowing up all the time (I had orange urine & broken blood vessles in my eyes). He gave me supositories (sp?) & the vomiting stopped. I had bunches of other issues w/ that pregnancy, but now I have a wonderful 10 y/o who I'd go through all of the horrible things agian to have her! Good luck & I hope you're better soon!!

Peppermint candy canes helped! I found out a week after Christmas and had hidden two boxes in my desk at work. I also heard that lemons or lemonade worked - which I could drink like crazy until the heartburn started.
