My daughter is biracial (black/white) yesterday i learned how to braid her hair in box braids and in rows, My question is, how do i get them to stay sleek and not frizzy, i put a cap on her hair at night, but still gets frizzy after like the 2nd or 3rd day.. should i use gel, conditioner, hairspray, just water? please help!

What can I do next?

Oils work great for sleekness. We use coconut oil (you can find a big jar by Louana in the cooking section for $5 at walmart). Actually any oil will do--African Pride or Royale or something is usually about $2 in the black hair care section. I use it on wet hair after detangling with our Tangle Teezer brush from Sally's Beauty Supply. I think the better the hair is detangled, the better the braids look. Good luck!

I had a roommate with long kinky hair and she would kept it in 2 french braids and she used Vaseline to condition it between washings. However, she redid the braids every morning and did not keep it in for several days. Maybe a beauty supply place would have a suggestion.

Braids will frizz on the 2nd or third day if they are not tight, however if you want to keep them looking a little frizzy you can try what another writer posted the pantene daily mosturizer creme. Squeeze some on your fingers and run it down the braid not against the braid and in the scalp. It's really good for their hair. My daughters are bi (hispanic/Af-American) and I use it for them. I learned how to braid also but I just can't do it the way my friends who are Af-American do and I see that my braids look frizzy on day 2 or three however when they my friends do it, it last for a week.

A friend of mine has a son who is bi-racial. She let his hair grow very long like a girl's for some reason. I think she was avoiding the first hair cut and also loved his long curls. She used flat out hand lotion when it was wet coming out of the bath. She said the OTC products were too expensive. She did corn rows and different things with him as well. She would mix water with the lotion to smooth over his hair in braids. She made sure to use things that did not have extra drying agents like alcohol and such since alcohol can dry hair. Hairspray has alcohol in it.
