I am concern. My daughter pooped 10 times today, the poop was hard and greenish, she says she feels ok but feels nauseated while in the bathroom.. somebody knows about this, could it be a virus?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

thanks everyone for your wise counsels. The pooping got better the next days, only four times..not her normal but I will take it. I was not aware of her pooping habits..she never tells me if she goes or not. neither I ever ask. Now I will be checking on her to make sure I make her go..cause she tends to keep playing over anything else.

I agree, sounds like constipation. Is she pooping a big amount each time, or just a small amount? Of small amount, then yes, constipation. My DD was throwing up very frequently and was very nauseated and it was because she was constipated from holding her stool. She quit holding her stool when she realized how sick it was making her, but to undo the constipation, I gave her Pedia Lax (Magnesium Citrate).

Sounds like typical constipation. My guess is that she has not pooped much, if at all, in the last few days. The poop tends to bind up in the colon due to lack of water and lack of fiber, which is why it's so hard. The tremendous pressure builds up and then is relieved when the poop comes out, and either that reduction or some kind of back-up in her small intestine and even stomach (due to the temporary blockage) made her nauseated. There's also something called a vaso-vagal response, which is when the vagus nerve is stimulated (which can occur from a variety of things, but bearing down hard during a bowel movement is one of them). That can cause lightheadedness and even fainting, so sometimes that bit of disequilibrium can cause a wave of nausea. And of course, during constipation, bacteria and toxins build up instead of being eliminated in a timely manner. I doubt it's a virus, although if she's got a touch of something, it could have helped to move everything through. If this is followed by a bit of diarrhea, that would be pretty normal.

I don't think there's a cause for concern now that she has pooped - but the cause of it is of greater concern. Some kids kind of hold everything in for a while - younger kids sometimes don't like to part with their poop or are afraid of the toilet, but kids your daughter's age are more likely to not want to spend the time in the bathroom because it takes away from their activities. So I think your focus should be on increasing her water and fiber (most fruits, whole grain breads, brown rice and so on), and decreasing foods that bind her up (e.g. cheese, bananas). I think she'll stabilize quickly.

She's constipated. She's not pooped for several days is my guess. Give her prunes or prune juice along with lots of water. You can also give her Miralax which is otc. It helps the intestines to hold moisture which makes the poop soft.

Going forward be sure she drinks plenty of fluids. Monitor her pooping to be sure she is pooping every day or every other day. Before this how often did she usually poop. That would be her expected pattern.

Sounds like she is constipated, has a lot up in there and can't get it out. Give her some prune juice. She needs plenty of fluids (water and gatorade) and FIBER.

If she has a virus, it will present itself probably in the form of a fever. But she needs to get unplugged. If she has abdominal pain, you will need to take her to an urgent care facility or the doctor and ask them to make sure that she doesn't have a blockage. THAT can be life threatening and you don't want to wait on that. (The little girl from the 'Poltergeist' movie died because of this. It was very sad.)

Good luck to you both and hope she feels better soon.

A little warm water will help her if she is constipated. If she won't drink that, perhaps a warm tea.

She probably ate something a wee bit off and her body's getting it out.
Talk to her about what she's eaten (in case it's something like berries off a bush), but do it gently. Odds are, it was something normal that was just on that edge.

Mots "24 hour bugs" are actually mild food poisoning.

She is constipated and her body is trying to clean itself out. Help her by giving her prune juice and/or miralax along with plenty of fluids. Continue until she has soft regular movements.
