I have a 3 year old daughter and a one year old son and am now (only) 7 weeks pregnant. (i say only because i found out 2 weeks ago, but it feels like 2 months ago). I am a little bit nauseous, nothing bad. But I am so exhausted and have no energy. I don't want to get out of bed or off the couch, let alone clean my house or cook dinner! Of course I have two little ones so i have no choice but to get up and do stuff, but it is such a chore. I don't remember being this exhausted with my other two. Maybe I just don't remember though, lol. Anybody else felt this way this early on in a pregnancy? Any tips on how to get energy?

What can I do next?

one thing that really helped me was when i was cooking dinner, i would make double and freeze half for another day. on weekends my husband would help me cook and we would do the same. at one point i had enough food in the freezer that i didnt need to do anything but pop stuff in the oven for close to three weeks! LOVED IT!! i never discovered a way to up my energy, i tried to nap whenever i could. good luck and congrats!

Ohh yes. Yes I do. To the point I thought there had to 5 little babies in there.lol I used to tell my oldest (Charity) If I have to get up you r getting a spanking. Get as much sleep as you can drink plenty of fluids and take your vitamins. I hope it dooes not last your whole pregnancy like it did mine. When Avary was bon the nurse that took her to be bathed told my husband that Avary must have been sucking me dry. She had the biggest umbilical cord she had seen in a long time. Also eat lots of Protien. Peanut better on apples, beans and so on. Congratulations.

I felt the same way early in my pregnancy. Just SO tired. No motivation whatsoever. Your body is busy! Cut yourself some slack! Maybe try walking to get your energy up.

Yes! More so with this one than my first. I mentioned it to my doctor and his response was so simple, but exactly right!

- With the first one, you are an emotional mess. You worry about everything and anything. With the others... been there, done that. Not so worried.
- With the first one, if you are tired you lay down for a few um... "minutes" and close your eyes. With the others... you crash at 8:30 right after they all finally fall asleep.
- You will feel better in a few weeks. I'm just out of my first trimester with baby #2 and have some of my energy back and feel like a (pudgy) human again!

How to get energy? Try to go to bed earlier. Insist on "quiet time" each afternoon for EVERYONE and just lay down... don't fall asleep, but lay down. If you can swing it, hire help for a few hours once or twice a week!

Yes I was definitely feeling this way early on with my son. I was nannying three kids at the time and it was all I could do to not fall asleep on the couch all day long. I have no tips for energy - I found it exhausting. However, the good news was for me the extreme fatigue was relatively short-lived and after the first trimester I was feeling more energy again. Just set your sights on the future I guess?

I'm 8 weeks preggo, very nauseas and also very fatigued, also with two small kids... all normal. One way to help fatigue is to get off your bum and walk for about 20 minutes. Hard and crazy sounding I know, but I swear it helps. Also, go to bed early and wake slowly. Take naps during the day. Too much sleep however, will actually make you more exhausted.

I haven't cooked dinner, or done any actual cleaning in a week b/c I can barely walk without throwing up. But those rare instances I feel okay, I try and do something. I made macaroni for lunch today and felt like some kind of hero. At this point, I am slightly less concerned about my child watching 4 hours of *educational* tv while I pass out next to him on the couch.

Oh for sure! So much harder with other little ones around, too.

I just kept in mind that I'd start feeling better around the 10-11 week mark. Knowing it was temporary helped, and the weeks went fast trying to keep up with the other kids and work full time.

Yes! I was exactly the same way until week 12 when things started to improve. I also had a 4 yr old and 13 month old at the time. Small frequent meals and light exercise helped. Basically, I just rested when I could (which wasn't often) and my husband helped a lot in the evening after coming home from work. Looking back, I think that period of extreme exhaustion and nausea/vomiting all day for the coming days with a newborn and a 20 month old who didn't sleep through the night. Parenting 3 small children is difficult, but doable if you lower your expectations of what you will get done on any given day and come to terms with unfinished projects (laundry, dishes, you name it). I hope you feel better soon. Congrats on your growing family!

When I fell pregnant with my daughter I was convinced I had the flu. I was soooo tired and felt achy all over. Even my dad knew I was pregnant before I did. :-) I probably would have been at the 7-8 week mark also. Then I did a test and ta-da!!!! She was my 1st though so I didn't have older kids to take care of. You have my full sympathy, hopefully it won't last too long and you will get to the lovely glowing stage everyone talks about. Funnily enough I never got to that stage. :-(

I went through it too, I'm 12 weeks now and things are a lot better. Try napping with your kids when you can. Do your best to make meal prep as simple as possible. Remember that the cleaning can mostly wait. Keep up with laundry and dishes and let the rest wait until you feel better. Your baby needs you to be well-rested just as much as your toddlers need you during the day.

I am 19 weeks pregnant with baby number 2 and I am exhausted 24/7. Sorry I know its not what you want to hear but at least you have the excuse that you have 2 little ones to keep up with. I remember being tired with my first but with this pregnancy I am so shocked at how much harder it hit me, having a toddler running around all day. I have heard that you are suppose to get your energy back in the second trimester and that hasnt happened yet for me. When I went to my last appt I mentioned the exhaustion to my Dr. and she suggested that I get my iron and thyroid checked. You might want to ask about this at your drs. appt but I would tend to think that its just early pregnancy tiredness mixed with already having two little ones to chase around all day
Good Luck and Congrats

I was like that with both of my pregnancies. It got better after 12 weeks. With my second pregnancy I would come downstairs & lay on the floor in the living room. My son (then 9 months) would crawl all over me & we would play on the floor for about an hour. Then I would have enough energy to get up & make breakfast. Then I would lay on the floor again. I had books, toys, puzzles all on the floor that he could bring to me & we could play. I did NO cleaning. My hubby did it all. He did dishes, laundry, & vacuumed the living room twice a week (we have carpet in that room & dogs & cats). He would occassionally vacuum the rest of the house & mop the kitchen floor. I don't think any dusting was done those 3 months & it didn't really matter. I only made breakfast, lunch & ocassionally dinner.
I don't know if walking would have helped (I don't think I could have done it, I often felt like I would pass out if I exerted myself too much, but it may help you), but if you can manage it, you should give it a try.
Good luck, it does get better.

Every pregnancy is different. Be sure to eat healthy, drink lots of water, and take your vitamins. Nap when the kids do and go to bed early. Ask hubby to help out more!
