yes banana and rice or oatmeal cereal. it could be from teething. but like others said visit the Dr if he's not contagious get a note to take back to school.
Any one's little ones catch a flu bug recently? This last week everybody in my house has had it, including my 9 mos old who has already had his flu shots recently. All of the adults had vomiting for less than 24 hrs. My 9 mos old son has had no vomiting, just diarrhea for going on 7 days. How long might I expect this to last? Will teething exacerbate the problem? My child care provider will not accept him back until he has had a normal bowel movement.
I guess I forgot to mention that I had already taken him to the doctor twice. The baby has been in good spirits the whole time & he is not dehydrated. I was just wondering how long any of your little guys have had the runs for. Today is the 10th day & it has finally improved dramatically. TY

Cook some oatmeal until is mush then add part of a banana. The 2 should slow the diarrhea and if you are giving juice stop juice will give him diarrhea also.
Here's the trick for diarhea:
B.R.A.T. = bananas, rice, applesauce, toast.
Don't feed him other stuff.
He is very small for bad diarhea. He needs to stay hydrated! Lotsa liquids (NO MILK) 7up, koolaid, jello.
That is BS, your doc should see him.
Some Rx & meds can also cause diarhhea.
Teething CAN cause runny stool, BECAUSE spit contains more acid for teething. So yes. Just remember, apple juice when they are constipated. BANANAS to plug them up a bit.
Also, if the diarhhea looks like RICE, he must get to doc.
Take him to the doctor as soon as you can. Infants can get dehydrated VERY easily and being dehydrated can make their sickness worse. As well, ask the doctor if pedialyte would be a good thing to give him. I know that when my son is sick we try to get pedialyte down him but I don't remember what age we started being able to do that and my son is now 3 years old. So yeah, take him to the doctor, better to be safe than sorry.
OMG, poor thing.......is he getting enough liquids? Have you tried giving him some banana's to help stop the diareha? 7 days seems like a VERY long time for a small infant to have the runs. Have you called the dr.?
Good luck

When my son had diarrhea my dr said exactly wat Katie B said!! Follow her advise and he should get better, but a visit to the dr would be best.
Hi S.,
Stomach "flu" is actually not the flu. Usually it's a bacterial illness passed through food (either someone has it and they don't wash their hands or food is contaminated at the origin.) It's normal for it to last 24 hours. Your baby doesn't seem to be fighting it off, so I would take him to the doctor. He probably is badly dehydrated at this point. Please don't wait any longer to take him in. And you might try some pedialyte or something on the way there.
Hard to say how long anything will last unless you know what it is, but 7 days is quite a while. I'd take him in to see a DR/ make an advice call. Babies with the flu is scary because they can get dangerously dehydrated sooo easily. Make sure he's drinking VERY WELL. He'll need extra if he's got the runs. Good luck. Hope baby feels better soon.
Acidophilus is a must for the runs (the live stuff in the refridgerator of the health food store)It will help populate the GI tract with good stuff and push out the bad.
also feet lowfat PLAIN yogurt.(you can mix in pureed fruit, like bananas.)
Diahrrea will contribute to a potassium defeciency. That's why its great food on the BRAT diet for the runs.
Around 8 mo. my daughter caught Rota virus. It was terrible. Her stool had a very harsh, acidic smell. I'd know it anywhere.
She had so much diarrhea that she refused to drink. It hurt and burned her bumm. IT WAS TERRIBLE STUFF!
She ended up in the hospital for dehydration for 7 days. They kept her until she had ridden out the virus (for the most part) because she had it at home for 15 days. The doc kept saying it might take longer for her to get over it.....
Call the dr. 7 days is a long time,if enough fluids aren't going it.... As long as fluids are going in, the baby should be fine to ride it out.
For her bumm we put Calmaseptine on it. It's a diaper rash cream that stops the pain and coats the area. We used that on her until she 5 (when needed for irritation and night wetting).

7 days is a long time with diarrhea. I would be concerned about dehydration. Teething will not exacerbate the problem, most things you hear about teething are not true. Call your Dr.
My entire family had that 24 hr. bug during xmas week. We got it one at a time and miraculously no one was sick on xmas, but my husband and I both got sick late xmas night. It went away in all of us within 24 hours, but my youngest grandson (15 mos old) had diarrhea for a couple of days - he only vomitted once. Teething could very easily be causing the continued diarrhea. I would just about bet he's no longer got the flu or anything else contagious.
The same thing happened to my daughter for 3 weeks. Take him off of milk completely and give him pedialite for babies in it's place. It might be hard the first day but it is very worth it. I fed my daughter banannas and anything with cheese.Good Luck.

Find a new doctor.. Imagine how painful your hole or stomach would feel after just a few days of diarrhea, even worse 7.
I would take him to the doctor. There are also some foods too that will make him have harder stools. But take him to the doctor. If doctor says he is alright then get a note and bring him back to daycare.
