A Shift in Monthly Cycle?

Last month I was over a week late and after several pregnancy tests went to the doctor... she ran a blood test... and everything was normal... not pregnant.. and I started a few days later. We had bought a house and moved two months before... so I assumed it was just the stress of that catching up to me (although I'm not the type to EVER be late).

Now, this month, I'm 4 days late... and I don't want to run off to take a pregnancy test (we're not trying to get pregant... but anything is possible)... but it just doesn't seem normal to me! Anyway, I just wanted to know if any of you have ever experienced this sort of thing. I know that my mom's cycle became irregular (she simply wouldn't have one for months at a time) when she was in her mid-twenties... and she opted for a hysterectomy. I'm almost 24 and so this idea kind of scares me. My mom did have other issues at hand at the time (she had recently gained a significant amount of weight... so that could have been the cause of her problem... but we never know for sure!) My doctor suggested birth control if it becomes an issue.. but it makes me extremely moody (not to mention kills the sex drive)... but I'm a creature of habit and I guess I just want some reassurance that it's going to work itself out... and I'll be on a normal schedule again!!

Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated!!

I have 3 children and never had this problem. I'm not trying for my 4th and Now that I'm 34, for the last 3 months my periods were 4 days late, then 5 and then 7. Now I'm back to a 28 day cycle. I went in to get blood work two differnt times and I'm so frustrated. I think it is just our bodies changing and it will happen with stress to. Just wait to see.

My cyle was always abnormal until I had my son. Then they were normal for about a year. Now they are all screwy again. I was thinking about buying a pregnancy test today! Everytime I do, I start! lol... I know how frustrating it is. Mine have become extremely painful, and I 'flood' to put it nicely. I went to the doc, they told me birth control as well, which I refuse to take. They can't seem to find anything wrong. I have gained 30lbs on top of all this as well. I also have a family history of female problems on both sides of my family. It does scare me, I am almost 30 and still on the fence about having another child... wow, I am not answering your question very well am I... sorry I got off on a tangent! If you have a family history of female problems, I would keep an eye on it, but try not to stress, that only makes it worse!

This may sound silly but it may be true - have you been hanging out with a new woman friend lately? The reason I ask is sometimes your body will adjust to cycle with a friend you hang out with a lot. It happens a lot with roommates.

My period came a week early lately. I was like what the heck. I've been running and hanging out with a new friend neighbor down the street (our kids hang out all the time and we run) and mentioned to her, and she said she just started hers too...so I think we almost are cycling together.

You can read an article about it here:\
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17134800/

I have no clue if that's what is happening to you, but I used to cycle every 40 days and when it jumped to 25 days, I was like what the heck, and that's all I can figure! :)

Mine have also changed since I've had my 2nd son - they seem a bit longer and are no longer as long as 40 days apart - more like the 30 they should be.

Please have them check your thyroid (TSH (using the NEW upper end of 3.0), Free T3, Free T4, and thyroid antibodies). They likely should have done that for your mother as that weight gain is a huge red flag for being hypothyroid. I sound like a broken record on this list about so many health issues being related to thyroid, but your thyroid does impact other hormones, which thus can impact your cycle and thyroid problems are hereditary (there's an excellent book: Hypothyroidism Type 2 by Mark Starr that gives the reason why). But, also stress can too and it could be just that and I think it's way too soon, after just one late (and one almost late) cycle to be worried about the issue. Your stress over being late is likely just making things worse.
