ABA Therapists in Mesquite Area

Hi Moms, it's my first request and I really need help. My 4 year old son has just been diagnosed with Autism and I am currently fighting with MISD to get the services my son needs. In the mean time, I am trying to find someone that provides ABA therapy, speech therapy, anything. As a mother I feel so overwhelmed and powerless to help my son, to help my family. His behavior is getting worse by the day and we just want to shout from the rooftops, "someone please help us". I will put myself into debt, I will move, I will do whatever it takes to make my son all that he can be. He is so loveing, and affectionate and just a beautiful little boy, he is just frustrated because he can not communicate. We are all frustrated and desperate. So if anyone knows of a good therapist in or around the Mesquite area I would be so grateful.

What can I do next?

I work for a clinic in Rockwall that specializes in autism and spectrum disorders. We do ALL KINDS of different things for the kids! I is amazing to see them come out of the places they were hiding inside themselves. The work that can be done to help these kids is awesome!
Try calling Excel Pediatric Therapy in Rockwall - My name is M. and I work with Denise Bennett. She is the owner and head therapist so I always think she is the go to but Lisa is great with autistic kids too! Actually all of the therapist are awesome and have their own styles.

Hope this help,
M. Miesse

M.,

I have a lot of experience working with MISD. Call me. I also have friends who have children with Autism, who have had great luck with MISD. I can put you in touch with them. I know it is so hard, when you know what is right for your kid. My Aunt is Special Ed in Houston and I lean on her all the time for advise. The best one she gives me, is most school policies for Special Ed are set by the State. Be Patient and don't fight with the school, work with them. Good Luck! ###-###-#### ____@____.com

The Meadowview School on Franklin Dr. in Mesquite specializes in special needs, call and see if they can help you. Also try calling Dallas Metro Care. My son now 23, has Down Syndrome graduated from MISD schools in '06. I do understand the frustration your going through. My daughter now 22 was ADHD from the age of 8 and we struggled with her too. She was always testing borderline for services so we had to learn to "play the game". Only advice I have is to stay firm and INSIST they give you what your son needs. Good Luck!!

M. there is a great counseling service in the Sunnyvale area called LifeBuilders - it's right on Beltline Road close to Sunnyvale First Baptist Church. You may want to give them a call to see if they provide counseling for Austistic Children. If they don't they would be able to point you on the right direction. The counseling service is also a kind of "pay as you go type service" where you never pay more than you can afford - it's a wonderful community service. I will pray that God directs you in the right direction.

You may also want to call the Autism Treatment Center in Garland, my husband worked there for some time. I am sure that they can put you in touch with the right people.

I will second Melissa's suggestion of Excel Pediatrics and Denise Bennett. I have also heard spectacular things about Dr. Rao and our family is awaiting our first appointment for our son diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder, severe ADHD and PDD-Aspergers. Let me know if you would like any additional info. We have been on this journey for over two years now.

M.,
I am sure you have probably already done this; but I know when you are just starting out on a fight, sometimes you have to learn these things along the way.

I homeschool my kids, and my daughter had a problem with her r's and s's when it came to speech. I went to the local school that she would attend if she went to school. They looked at me like I had 3 eyeballs. Finally, they did test her, and sent her the the Special Education Department.

Call and ask to speak with Rosa Minx. She is a wonderful and caring lady who will at least give you some straight answers. See if you can get an appointment with her.

Please know though - with it being so late in the school year, they will most likely take your information to call you at the beginning of next school year. (That is how it was with speech anyway.) Maybe for your son would qualify for more help than just September thru May.

I hope this helps. I know a situation like this can make you feel as if things will never get straightened out. Just remember in your heart, that things will get better.
