So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for your support.
I had a bloodtest and I do ovulate,I had a laparoscopy for checking everything out inside of me and it turned out I'm totally fine.No blocks in the tubes, no endometriosis....I guess I just have to wait for my turn, but I'm worried that my time is running out.
I'll keep this side updated with a success story hopefully.

I did several rounds of CLomid several years ago. Clomid alone wasn't strong enough for me, so we had to move to injectables. I know many women, though, who have conceived on Clomid. I have used some herbs and have conceived 3 times on those, also. I wish you the best of luck and should you have any questions, email me any time!

Hi! I have three great kids, two which are a direct result of clomid! My oldest is 9 and my second will be 5 in a few weeks. Don't get discouraged (I know easier said then done) but it'll work. Get an aggressive doctor, who really treats your infertility as a medical problem. I highly recommend Dr. Rhonda Wright on KC Women's Clinic.
Good Luck!

Hi!
My name is L. and abot 5 1/2 years ago I had to go to an infertility doctor. I took 100mg Clomid for 3 months. When you get that high it dries up your vaginal fluid and you have to have artificial insemination. I ended up taking Clomid for 5 cycles with no luck because I ended having endometriosis and did not get pregnant until after surgery. If you have any more questions you can e-mail me ar ____@____.com.

We did two cycles after a miscarriage with no success. I went to a fertility specialists and they determined that I had polycystic ovaries and was having trouble w/ ovulation and producing mature eggs. They started me on metformin and baby aspirin. I got pregnant with my son on just those meds after about three months. With my daughter we did the same meds plus Clomid and got pregnant on the first cycle. I'm telling you both stories so you don't get discouraged if it doesn't happen right away. There may be some other reason. Also, don't do more than six cycles of Clomid. I know a woman that had breast cancer in her thirties due to too much Clomid. There are definately some risks involved, but the result may be well worth it.

I haven't, but a friend of mine did with both of her kids. I think she was on it about 4-6 months both times before getting pregnant. I don't know about side effects or anything you may experience though. I went through IVF for my girls, so I was on Lupron and Follistim, but I was never on Clomid.

Good luck!!

I took Clomid for our second son. It took about 3-4 months to produce a result. I know that my cousin had a procedure done that "cleaned out" her uterus and seemed to produce a baby every time. So....Don't give up. I had my third child, a daughter when I was 39.

I had great luck with clomid. We got pregnant on the first month, but there were several things we did first. We got my husband checked out, what is the point if there were no swimmers??? I also went on a low carb, higher protein with lots of fresh veggies and fruit, diet. No fast food, or at least moderation, and I exercised 4 times a week. Nothing crazy, just a 20 minute walk or a little yoga. I did 50 mg of clomid on days 3-7. I know doctors will tell you 5-9, but 3-7 worked well for us. We tried every other night on days 9-21. Now we have a beautiful 18 month old little boy. So good luck!!!

I hated it! It made me feel sort of crazy and moody. We tried for 2 years and then I went on clomid. I was in my first cycle of it and I had a severe allergic reaction to something I ate on the day I was supposed to start the 3rd month of pills. I called my fertility doctor and he told me not to take the clomid since I was on prednisone (sp). I figured we had waited 2 years to get pregnant, what is one more month? Wouldn't you know I got pregnant that month!!!!!!!!! I guess since we weren't 'trying' it happened. Since then I have been pregnant 2 more times (one was a miscarriage) and they were all when we weren't trying! The last baby I had (12 weeks old!) was conceived on day 49 of my cycle....not sure how that happened!! I have PCOS and so I don't have normal cycles. Good luck with getting pregnant!! Maybe not 'try' for a month or two and see what happens!!!

I used Clomid in the late 90's and shortly after beginning my 2nd round found that we were pregnant. Unfortunately, I am prone to tubal pregnancies so I wasn't able to keep my baby so I can't speak to much else. The only side-effects I noticed were my balance being a little off and a little dizziness. However, I really only noticed these symptons while doing Tae Kwon Do, which requires good balance and the ability to turn & jump. When going through my normal life I remember being fine. Good luck to you!!

Good luck! Our middle child is a result of clomid. She took four months of trying, once on the medication, and 3 hour drives to and from our doctor in Oklahoma City, we were in Altus, Oklahoma at the time, and a dream come true. My only concern with the drug was after the birth I had a pretty bad case of post-partum. I didn't have it with our first child, nor our third, which were both natural pregnancies. I hope you have your wish come true soon.

Clomid can be an emotional roller for some and for others, it seems to have no major side effects.

My only concern is that if you have been trying for 3 years without success that you are seeing an RE (Reproductive Endocrinologist, aka fertility specialist) and not just an OB. I have been in the infertility community for a long time (my son was a result of IVF) and I have heard numerous stories of OBs who put their patients on Clomid as a shot-in-the-dark before exploring the real reasons for the infertility. If you are not seeing an RE, I would not go more than two or three cycles on Clomid before consulting a specialist. And call early, since the really good REs are booked for months in advance. (I highly recommend my RE, Dr Anthony Pearlstone at MoBap but also like the REs at Wash U.)

My cousin had a similar situation as the poster above... Her OB had her on Clomid for six months before she finally consulted an RE and found out she had blocked fallopian tubes. All of the money and time spent on the Clomid was a waste because she couldn't get pregnant anyway. Her RE cleared her tubes and she got pregnant the next month.

Good luck to you, and please keep us posted on your progress.

Hello E.,

I myself couldn't get pregnant after almost 5 years of trying. I tried the clomid twice actually. The first time I did the clomid for 6 months and nothing happened. Then the 1st or 2nd month I was off of it I ended up pregnant finally. However, I ended up miscarring at 12 weeks. So we held off for about 6 months. Then we tried the clomid again and bam the first month I was pregnant again. That pregnancy went great and I now have an almost 3 year old daughter.

But also keep in mind that it may not take so long the 2nd time if you decide to have more. Because I then started trying again (w/o the clomid) and bam I was pregnant the first time. So my kids are only 21 months apart. But it's been the greatest!!

Good Luck,

I was on clomid for a few months, got pregnant and had a miscarriage. The doctor told me to wait 3 months before trying again. We waited the 3 months, started clomid again and 3 or 4 months later got pregnant again. I had a HUGE cyst on my ovary (I think from the Clomid)and went in to have that checked. While they were looking at that, they found TWO heartbeats. I now have beautiful 7 year old twin boys!!
I do remember having horrible hot flashes with the Clomid but that's really the only side effect I remember and it was definitely worth it.
Good luck!!

Hi E.

I'm 33 and my son just turned 16 months - he was a Clomid baby. We tried for 1-1/2 years before going on it. We too had all the other tests prior to it as well. I started at 50 mg, moved to 100 then finally to 150mg which is what finally worked for me. Oddly enough, I had more side effects at the lower doses than I did at 150mg! Regardless, they were such a small price to pay for the amazing little boy I got in return. If you need to see a specialist in St. Louis, I went to Dr. Peter Ahlering and SHER Institute for Reproductive Medicine. The people there are absolutely wonderful! So much so that I was disappointed at having to leave and go back to my OB once I got pregnant. They just get you pregnant - they don't deliver. Anyway, if you need more info, their website is www.haveababy.com. Good luck!

Hi E.. My name is Jennifer. I'm 34 years old and now pregnant with my 2nd child. Long story short - I was pregnant 6 years ago and very late in the pregnancy it was discovered that our son was stillborn. Being it was our first pregnancy, my husband & I were devastated and very eager to get pregnant again. When it didn't happen fast enough (about 6 months later), my ob-gyn put me on Clomid to help things along. Unfortunately, after only a few months on it, I ended up with very large ovarian cysts because of the clomid. It was very painful and the cysts had to be drained. Thankfully, there was no permanent damage to my ovaries. I did have to be put on birth control pills for several months to keep them from coming back. It took a long time to get over that and prolonged my getting pregnant the 2nd time. My advice would be to make sure your doctor is monitoring you closely to make sure you don't end up with cysts. I have heard many success stories with Clomid, it just didn't work for me. So don't give up on it - just be careful. Good luck to you!!!!

Hi E.-

I did chlomid and chlomid with IUIs (3 cycles). I had no problems with the chlomid, but I usually don't get side effects from medicine anyway. Unfortunately it didn't work for us, so we ended up going to a fertility specialist (which I would highly encourage you to do after 3 years with no luck either). Tests showed my uterine lining was borderline thin, and chlomid usually makes this worse, so that definitely wasn't the right drug for us. Turns out my FSH was too high anyway, so we ended up adopting a beautiful baby boy about a year ago. Best of luck, and don't wait to long to see a specialist - ours had me diagnosed the first month and saved us the agony of spending more time trying to get pregnant. Let us know what happens!

I was on clomid with both pregnancies. I had twins the first time and a singleton the second. I had to do insemination with both pregnancies too. The clomid only helped my body with ovulation. I went through a place called PARINTS. It was awesome. My doctor was in contact with them the whole time for test results etc. Clomid itself was fine with me. I had to eat fatty foods because my uterus lining became too thin from the drug was the only negative side effect for me.

I know you are taking a fertility drug, but this too might help you along. There is a sight called fertilityfriend.com that teaches you about ovulation and keeps track of your periods and ovulation times. It took us 2 yrs to get pregnant but this works. Count 14 days from the day you START your period and this is your most fertile time. Now here is the kicker...your husband has to not pleasure himself or have sex with you at least 3 days prior to the 14th day. If you are fine it must be him doing something to lower his count if you catch my drift. It worked for us and our friends who are due with their boy next month. Have fun!

I can tell you anything you want to know about Clomid! We've been through 12 rounds of IUIs with Clomid and also with injectable fertility meds. The biggest side effects I had (and I took 150mg/day) are the hot flashes and the mood swings. They can be pretty severe so don't think you're crazy when you experience them. It's just the meds making you bonkers.

I think you will like www.fertileheart.com web site. It is a web site for women struggling with infertility. I struggled with infertility for 3 years and this web site was great. I will warn you most of the women on this web site are very deperarate to become pregnant and are trying natural rememdies, which I disagree with. I think if it happens it will happen. It did for me. I went through one of year of all sorts of fertility treatments. Clomid was the first and then on to injectable drugs. I was finally told I had less than 3% chance of conceving and to consider donor egg or adoption. One year later, I became pregnant on my own. I now have a healthy little boy who will turn 2 years old March 31st. I conceived him when I 40 years old. I was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure and was taking estrogen when I got pregnant. The estrogen reversed my high FSH level, which was 69. It went back to normal 10 and under upon taking estrogen. My doctor is still clueless as to why and how this happened.

Hi,

My sister did Clomid, and it helped her. I did a different drug, I did Metaphormin (spelling?). It helped He within a month. I understand your concerns. However, the only thing with my siter is her son was very premature, I am not sure if that has caused his fine motor skills, and led to ADDHD and PDD-NOS. I was three weeks early, my water broke.

I think you should be fine. I know it is scary, but I think you should be OK. I am not a doctor so I suggest you should talk to your OB about your concerns.

We got a late start too. I had Maria when I was 33.

I hope this helps you a little.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Hi E. I was on clomid after 3 years of not getting prego. I did not work for me - I had blockages in my tubes that was causing my problem (other wise who know I might have a litter :)). But, I can tell you get ready for a roller coaster. 1) it will screw with your emotions, just get ready for that. 2) You will feel like a 55 year old woman with the hot flashes. I am not kidding about that. I sleep in flannel pj and about 3 blankets even in summer and I went to sleeping with no blanket and hardly any clothes :) My husband didn't mind but the sweating was unreal.

Those are my two major things that I remember. I would make sure that you need to do the drug thing first - see a specialist and make sure you don't have a blockage etc... It's not the worth the chance of a high risk situation if you don't need to go there.

Good luck!

I was on clomid for about 1 year and it did nothing for me- literally!! It is very mild and I beleive really only helps if there is nothing wrong... I had endometriosis so it did not help me. I am just being honest by saying I would not waste too much time using the clomid, it took us 5 years to have our first baby and it was because of the endometriosis. I have several friends who have went to the shir institute in St. Louis Missouri and they ALL have babys now... jsut a thought. J
