I just wanted to ask if anyone knows what acne medications are safe while breastfeeding. Also, is there any type of acne medication that you would recommend more than others for adult acne?

Hi there - I don't quite know of any that are deemed "safe" I did use Benzoyl Peroxide on my face with both of my kids at a very low dose and had no issues. I don't know that they have much research in this area. Anyhow with that said about a month ago I started using Paula's Choice Skincare and I really like it. You can find it on the web http://www.paulaschoice.com/. If it doesn't work for you they have a 60 day money back guarantee. Good luck!!

Hi! I am a Mary Kay Consultant. We carry a line called Velocity. This line has no benzoyl in it and is safe for pregnant and nursing women. If you would like you can set up to have a facial and try the products out before you decide what would be best for you. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about your skin care routine.

Please, please, please go natural. Natural is best for you and your daughter. I have struggled with moderate acne my entire life (now 31) and just recently started getting the results I have been waiting for. About 8 months ago, a friend of a friend introduced me to Arbonne skin care. Arbonne is all natural, with no pharmaceuticals. My face is smooth to touch for the first time ever. Look at it online and if your interested in trying it for free contact me at ____@____.com.

I too had acne with my 14 month old daughter, even though I had never had acne before. My dermatologist prescribed a topical lotion, clindamycin phospate 1%, and it worked beautifully. I've just recently stopped breastfeeding, so I'm hoping the acne clears SOON! Good luck.

I used Belli Acne Clearing Facial Wash, which is made for pregnant women. It worked pretty well and kept my skin soft and clear. Here's a link with more info:

When I was pregnant and breastfeeding, my doctor said I should avoid salicylic acid products since it is made from asprin. He said I should stick with good old benzoil peroxide products. I found that the proactive line workes well, and did not bleach things like some OTC products do.

If acne medicine works the same as when your pregnant while your breastfeeding you can not take anything that has benzoyl in it. Unfortunately, almost every acne fighting products have benzoyl in them. However, if that is the case I know Mary Kay has a face wash and moisturizer that does not have benzoyl in it and it worked great for me when I was pregnant with my second child. It is called Velocity and you can probably find a consultant in you area on their website, just google Mary Kay. If your doctor says that you can use products with benzoyl in it while breastfeeding I would suggest using Proactive. I broke out horribly during my first pregnancy and didn't know what I could take. As soon as I had my daughter I bought Proactive and my face was clear within a month. So to tie it all up, my advice would be 1- ask you doctor if you can use products with benzoyl 2- if not find Velocity / if you can try Proactive. I hope everything works out.

I used BeautiControl products during my pregnancy and they worked like magic!! Afterwards, they started to break my skin out, so I just use soap now...but they cleared my skin up like nothing I have ever taken before. I can get you in contact with a friend that sells it if you are interested in it. I think your first set is a bout $36 and includes a cleanser, a scrub, a tonic, and a lotion - and it lasts for MONTHS!

You can always call the Lactation Center at Holy Cross and have them look up products and ingredients in their book, too.

I had terrible breakouts when I was preganant with my second son. I asked the doctor about the over-the-counter meds and he said not to use them. He suggested simply using an antibacterial soap and a light moisturizer and it actually did work. Good luck.

hi.
I had the same problem. I had been struggling with it ever since I had the IUD put in back in 03. NO one bothered to tell me that it would mess up my hormones and cause acne. I've taken several meds. for it and used lots of topical meds. to help with it. Over time there was a antibiotic I took that help keep it at bay but you don't want to be on an antibiotic for a long period of time. I have been living here now since 07 and a few months ago I went to see the dermatologist and she told me that my acne is hormone related because of my age now. I am bipolar so the meds I take also play a role in my hormones so she told me she said get back on birth control pills. They help regulate your hormones. It didn't dawn on me to do that in the past. When I was a teenager I was on birth control pills on into my 20's and my face only had your few pimples due to periods. I am 36 yrs. old. I started taking yaz about 3 months ago and it has definitely made a difference in my skin. If you can birth control pills then I would say try it out to see if it helps you.
As far as a cleanser, try a soap called Purpose. It's dermatologist recommended and it doesn't clog pores. It should be safe while breastfeeding also. Another thing, try not to pick if you do. I know that is tough. If you have any other questions that I can help you with please let me know. Good Luck.. Now if you do get back on bc it will take a couple of months to see improvements. Unless you are already on the pill then there would have to be other options... Good Luck

I used topical creme neosporine- it worked and once it was cleared up I wouldn't use it anymore and my skin would stay pretty clear. I would just do the problem spots.

Hi L Q. I have a home based business handcrafting natural skincare and mineral makeup using organic ingredients. I created all the recipes. One of the products is a Honeybush Acne Serum that works great on breakouts and cystic acne (under the skin). I'm in my early 40's and have this issue at those times of the month with hormonal imbalances. There are mini's available so you can try it on the cheap. :-) Located in G'Burg so you can pick things up and not have to pay shipping. Website is http://www.zosimosbotanicals.com HTH! L.
