Bonners.com has adoption ornaments that can be personalized with the child's name and the adoption date. I have one for my daughter and love it.

Other ideas would be some type of jewelry that can be engraved and kept as she grows. There are some cool jewelry options for adoptions...a site you may want to look at is adoptshoppe.com. Another option is something with a monogram, as her monogram is probably changing with the change to her last name.

If the child is young enough, you may want to get an adoption-friendly children's book. There are a variety available at amazon...you can search "adoption foster" to pull them up.

Maybe a beautiful charm with her adoption date engraved on the back?

Congrats to your friends! Over the moon doesn't begin to describe the joy they are feeling ... We just finalized our adoption of our foster son in mid-October. We've had him since he was 4 weeks old ... He's just over 22 months. Pure joy! A couple of recommendations based on some of the things we received ...

We didn't get any of these, but they are recommended in Adoptive Families magazine and the profit goes to help support other foster families

We received a lovely silver frame with our son's name engraved and his adoption date. Looks beautiful with a picture of him in it from that day.

A gift certificate to a local photographer or studio is also a great idea. Check out Craigslist for any deals ... That's how I found the one we used. She was great.

There's also an organization called Red Thread Sessions (http://www.redthreadsessions.com/) that takes pictures of adoptive families for free. We didn't go that way, since they post the pics on-line and own the rights; your friend may be interested though.

Maybe one of those photo albums that says "Our Family" or somethign similar on it. I know that she has been "theirs" in their hearts since Day 1, but just to recognize that is is now official.

A gift card to Target?

Do something sentimental - a photo album or scrapbook, making family handprints, a family photo shoot, etc. Something they can remember forever. A nice Christmas ornament that says "Smith Family 2012" with a photo or something like that would also be great.

do you have enough pics of the couple and their child to possibly put together an album for them? I did this for my son's first year.. I made it for family/friends that we were close to and for whom we thought would enjoy seeing how my son changed in one's years time.. they seemed to like it..
Also, is anyone doing favors? I know it's technically not a baby shower, but you could get some really cute ones made.. they have such fun ones these days... it needn't say when the little girl was born since she is already 2 1/2 but it could say something else really sweet..

Are you looking for a gift for the child (like "welcome to the family")? or for the parents (like "congratulations")? or for the family?

For the child...a bracelet, necklace, some other keepsake type of thing.
For the couple...a bottle of wine and a card, an ornament or engraved keepsake, a nice frame with a picture of the three of them
For the family...two nice frames with a picture of the three of them (one for the couple and one for the child) or a gift certificate so they can get a family portrait, or host a dinner in their honor?

possibly a family holiday ornament. I love those things.
