Hi mamas,

My birthday is this week and normally I would not care much about what to do but... this may be the last time I get to celebrate my birthday with my friends because we plan on moving to another city by this time next year so I'd like to do something special.

I have a LO and would like to include my SO in any celebration we do which means getting a sitter for the evening.

I'm in my mid 20s, have a tight budget, and expect to spend my birthday with just a few of my good friends and their SOs.

Any creative ideas would be appreciated.

TIA

~ALIEN

What about go-carting, mini-golfing, roller-skating or bowling? I always have more fun doing an activity.

Well, it's much easier to "go-all-out" when you're not on a budget like rent a limo, go to a fancy dinner & an comedy show.

But if you're on a budget, you can still do it up.
Just get creative.
How about, if you call a nearby semi-fancy (not too expensive) restaurant, see if you can book a room for some privacy. Tell people you will pay for some the appetizers & some bottles of wine or drinks but they will be responsible for their dinners. Tacky I know but if you're on a tight budget and they are your good friends, it should be fine.

Or you could have a nice shin-dig at your home where you provide nice bottles of wine, a few mixed drinks, lots of appetizers, some small entrees then hire a limo to take your friends to a comedy show or fancy, upscale bar.

You can then get everyone together for a group picture to remember you
by.

Personally, I think going to a reasonably priced restaurant nearby your home then back to your house (decorate nicely, elaborately, have a comedy show or comedy channel on...not that you will totally watch it), make some mixed drinks, have some light appetizers & mixed nuts on hand for after dinner w/all the drinking . Tell people they can take cabs home or let them spend the night so no one has to worry and can have a good time.

It won't matter what you do. Just that you have everyone together and have a good time. Be sure to give everyone your new address before they leave!

You can, also, give everyone tiny, inexpensive gifts wrapped in fancy paper. Be creative. Get everyone a small token that will remind them of YOU after you move.

Call around for a feasible semi-fancy restaurant. If you can't afford that then look for a very reasonably priced nice restaurant w/a nice ambiance.

I've done dinner at Hard Rock Cafe in Detroit and a show at an improv theatre for my birthday-that was fun!
A lot of my friends are having '80s themed parties-you might be a little young for that. It could be kinda fun if you were taking it out as you'd all be dressed to turn heads.
A huge thing with my friends is to book a venue (bar, or cruise ship on the river) then invite and ask for RSVP. That way the gusts understand that they will be paying their own (group reduced) rate.

Since you are tight on funds and most likely your friends are as well since you are probably about the same ages, ...............why don't you have some outing at your home. Cookout, pot luck, make a dinner for everyone, even cater it with wine, beer, cake, etc. Possibly share a babysitter or 2 for all of your children at a friends house close by.

If you plan to have a party at a venue, then the proper thing to do would be for you to pick up the ENTIRE tab for all of your attendees.

You can get some good deals this time of year at venue spots due to the season.

Top Golf is a LOT of fun. I had an outing for cheerleaders at the one in Allen in August right before school started and it was only $500 for 15 girls, drinks, appetizers and all the golf they wanted that day.

Strikz in Fairview could be fun for bowling, etc. No idea on pricing.

A lot of restaurants have small private dining areas. There is a minimum charge per person and you just work that out ahead of time. You can pre order appetizers, salads, entrees, salads and desserts to share per table. I've been at Maggianos in Plano and this was a very nice set up with a group of about 30 people.

Whatever you do, have fun and enjoy your birthday!
