Adult Dance Lessons?

I've been thinking about taking dance lessons- a way to get some exercise, have fun, and satisfy my inner diva. I've never taken any formal dance lessons, though, and have no idea where to look. I've looked at a few web-sites, but see nothing for adults. Is this something that is not usually offered? Should I look into private lessons, or am I looking in the wrong place? Any recommendations? I live in Greenville, SC.

What can I do next?

Just the other day I noticed a dance studio right next to the Melting Pot restaurant on Haywood Rd. It's in the same plaza and the plaza address is 475 Haywood Rd. Sorry I don't know any more info, but I did see adults in there while we were waiting.

from the other responses it seems you're looking for your daughter, but from your question it seems you're looking for yourself. If that's the case, I think you should check in to it. I just recently starting taking dance lessons, ballroom, and have so much fun. It is such a mental break from my lovely child. I have an absolute blast. It's not cheap, but to me it's worth it, and to be honest I really haven't shopped around. I take lessons with my friend Paul. My husband doesn't like to dance and we have so much fun. I signed up at Fred Astaire Dance Studio on Haywood rd. The intro package is 3 30 min lessons and a public dance for 40.00. Not too bad. But then it goes up from there. have fun!!!!!

Hi M.,
Once you look around in the Greenville area you are going to find quite a few dance studios. I strongly recomend Karen's Dance Academy. I have taken dance here for 19 years and there are several things that makes this studio stand out from others. The monthly tuition is the lowest that you are going to find for all the classes that will be taught. Your child will take Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Tumbling. When she gets older then she will learn Clogging and other styles of dance. This is all included in the low montly cost. All of the students are there to have fun and at the end of the year, the parents have fun watching their children in the Dance Recital at Furman University. Of course there are adult classes to. They aren't huge classes so you will be able to get the training you want. Talk to Karen! She is very understanding and cooperative with your work schedule. There is a class for everyone. Hope this helps a little. Karen's Dance Academy - ###-###-####..

I've taken dance since I was 8, and all of the studios that I've taken from have always had an adult class or two, sometimes more depending on the numbers of women and men interested. I live in Powdersville and UCDC has adult classes. My suggestion would be to grab an issue of Upstate Parent and look through their ads for the studios near you. I've seen a studio over on Butler road that seems to have a lot of classes. Most of the time it's the larger studios that tend to have the best variety in classes, sizes and experience levels.
Good luck to you and I hope you find a studio that you feel comfortable in.
Best Wishes
Jen
