I'm a dud, but where would you even buy garter belts, real ones, that work? I can only say I've seen them around Halloween time.
I must be buying too many granny panties :(
Eek. I'm not the most fashionable person. Do women actually wear garter belts under their clothes out in public? I always try not to have any bumps or lines but I would think one would not be wearing baggy clothing over something like that. Sorry for the crazy question. It came up at dinner tonight and this is the best placei know to ask questions that I wouldn't ask the people I see everyday.
I was trying to be delicate and was a little too vague. I did mean for date night w hubs. Not to preschool playdate. lilke when you are trying to be sexy and out to dinner wearing something pretty and not exactly a sundress, nor a business suit. , wouldn't you have lines and bumps that would make it obvious you were wearing something "special"??
Maybe trench coat or wool business suit is the way to go.

When I was a size 2 or 4 I often wore hose and garter belts instead of full pantyhose. I found them comfy and much cooler in the summer. Oh and I wore them under my office attire. I was not trying to hook a man or my boss. There was no reason for anyone to know what me under things looked like.
They are not so popular nowadays. And I have eschewed any form of hose completely now. Summer is bare tanned legs. Winter is tights. Which makes me miss the days of garter bets and hose.
I bet you hubby would love them. Try them under a sexy dress.
Well...
Several years ago I did actually wear a bustier with garter belts...and some 'seamed' black stockings and high heels...and a 'trench' coat to a FANCY restaurant with my peter.
All I can say is that when we met at the restaurant...and he realized what I was wearing...the meal was brief...
And he was NOT interested in what I was wearing 'over' it.
Just saying!
;)
best luck!

***In terms of 'getting them', as I recollect, I ordered them on line. They were delivered discretely. The trench coat was my ex husbands! lol
Not a crazy question....
I only wear garter belts and stockings when I am trying to seduce my husband!! :) I will tease him when we go out on a date and give him a glimpse of what I have on underneath my clothing and drag the evening out...lol!!
I know a couple of women who PREFER garter belts and stockings over pantyhose...when worn correctly, they do not show. Stockings USED to be better than pantyhose..a little more durable...I don't know...mine usually don't last long! :)
hope this helps!! have fun!!
Umm, I don't. I don't know anyone who does, unless they do it without ever mentioning it.
The only time I've worn a garter belt has been on hot date nights with hubby and no one was aware I was wearing one.
It was my little secret for a happy ending evening!!
Not to an office, unless it is some woman trying to hook men or get a man or boss. And she is an attention seeker.
Not to the grocery store, unless you are on your way to work, say at a "bar" and this is your "uniform."
Not to a mommy/toddler hang out.
Some women do, because it is comfortable.
It does not have to be worn under tight clothing only... it can be worn like say under a sundress, too.
Most women wear it in "private."
No, not unless they're planning on getting freaky ;-p.
When I wear stockings, they are the kind that stay up on their own.
If a woman prefers using a garter belt, she isn't going to be wearing skintight clothing that shows it unless she doesn't know better. Not being tight doesn't mean baggy clothing either - it means properly fitting clothing.
It is also worth noting that the belts that are fancy/embellished in such a way that they would show lines are meant for the bedroom only. The kind that are to be worn during the day are smooth and flat, and don't create lines or bumps.
As far as I know they are sort of just "symbolic" for weddings....I mean stockings have elastic now and don't need to be "held up"..is this a trick question? :) Plus weren't those meant to be under hoop skirts where no lines would show anyway? Literally we just watched "Oklahoma" over the weekend and a "peddler" was selling them to pioneer women...
Edit:
I don't know the difference between a garter and bustier. LOL sorry.
I wear what we call "magic underwear" when I am wearing anything that would show a muffin top (although diet and exercise has vastly improved that). It's underwear but has a control top and goes way up, some of them go up to my bra line for those times I want a seamless look. Yes, I do wear this day to day and not just for special occasions. The way I see it, if I have a muffin top, people will look at it (I teach so I'm in front of a class of students) but if I wear a control top then no one pays attention. I think that because it's what I do. If I see "stuff" hanging out I'm totally grossed by that and think all women should dress to what fits their body best rather than try to be some sexy thing when you just have no business doing so.
I do like to wear nice undies to feel good but it's always with a more blouse-y top so I don't have to worry about reigning in the extra skin I have.
I used to when I was in my early 20s and had not put on weight yet...
I think if someone was wearing a garter belt, it would be for a "special occasion", not for day to day. I picture them as bedroom wear if you get what I mean.... If I were going out, I'd buy the stockings that don't need garter belts. Are they called Thigh Highs? They have sticky stuff at the top to keep them from sliding down
I'm with the other post who mentioned support undergarments. I have enough lumps and bumps of my own without having garter straps adding more.
Once upon a time, I was thin & professional...
I wore silk stockings & a garter belt.
Light years outside of my current budget
They "show" less than pantyhose, IME.
Pantyhose dig into your (mine, anyway) waistline. Garter belts aren't stretchy. They're fitted. The ribbons & clips would only be noticeable under skintight Lycra style dresses, or tight pants. Since that's not work apparel*, no worries.
* This company had an extremely strict dress code (also very British). I hand out the list to anyone interviewing at certain upscale firms.
LOL... One this is for certain... LOTS easier to go to the bathroom!
Do you actually mean "girdle" instead of "garter belt"? I know there's a product called "Spanx" that is for flattening belly lines under tailored or form-fitting clothing that's pretty popular, but I don't know why anyone would wear one under something baggy.
I wear garters and stockings any time that thin hose are needed - I don't do pantyhose. I have bought stockings and garters at department stores as well as Target.
Unless your clothes are painted-on tight, the garters aren't going to make lines under them.
