Has anyone had success getting an infant to drink Allimentum? And/or has anyone had an infant who had problems with it?
My breastfed 6 month old is allergic to milk/soy and our only formula option is hypoallergenic...she will drink 2 oz at most of this stuff - in the past she has rejected other formulas and ultimately we determined it was b/c they didn't agree with her (i.e. made her violently ill in a few cases). I hesitate to force the issue for fear that she'll negatively react to larger quantities of this stuff. Any advice is appreciated...
My son also had a milk and soy allergy. I found the best way to introduce the formula to him was to mix it with breast milk, and over time reduce the proportion of breast milk and increase the amount of Alimentum until it is mostly formula. Hope this helps.
Try Nutragimen (not sure of the spelling). It's the same hypoallergenic formula, but your baby may like the way it tastes better. I had the same issue with my twins when they were infants (now 8.5 years!), and they liked one brand better than the other (although I don't remember which it was now). Good luck!
My daughter was allergic to milk protein and we got her to take both Alimentum and Nutramigen as well. Also I cut all milk out of my diet so I could continue to nurse her. I have no secret as to how she took the formula....she just took it. But it sounds like it may be the bottle that your baby doesn't like. There are many other options for formula so ask your doctor. My niece was allergic to milk and she got Neocate which has to be prescribed by a doctor.
my daughter have so many allergies to formula we went through reg, soy, alimentum, then to enfamil nutamigen. shedid well on that, but it was so expensive she ison goodstart gentle formula and does just as well
Three of my four boys ended up on Alimentum. Only two had issues with the taste. I had to pair it with breastmilk, for example 3 oz. breastmilk: 1 oz. alimentum. (or another formula they accepted, even though digestively this wasn't the best and slightly prolonged their issues) and every few days change the ratio until we got down to all Alimentum. One of them had a better time with the powder you mix yourself as oppossed to the premade liquid. But in the end would accept both. Good Luck.
My son tried Alimentum and Neutramigen without success. We finally had success with Elecare from Ross pharmaceuticals. You can order it online. If you have a letter of medical necessity from your physician, your insurance might should cover it.

My daughter started Neocate at 10 months because of numerous food allergies. Alimentum has casein in it which is a milk protein. You can buy Neocate at CVS, ask the pharmacist to order it you if it's not in stock. Your insurance will probably cover it with a prescription from your pediatrician or allergist. First, you might have luck asking for a sample can from the the doctor's office to see if your baby takes to it.
my son (8 months) has been on Allimentum since he was 8 weeks old...i stopped nursing him while we explored the origin of his hyper extended tummy...turns out he has a dairy allergy. we have occasionally experienced constipation which apparently is uncommon on this formula..but combat it with applesauce now that he has solids..I also dilute the formula with a bit of extra water...so to make 6 oz. bottle (3 scoops), I fill water to 7oz line...seems to have helped when I initially introduced it and so I am sticking with it.

When my son was about 6 months old, he was on Allimentum for a couple of months due to his eczema and food allergies. That formula tasted awful to me, but thank God, my son didn't seem to mind so I didn't have a problem getting him to drink it. All I can think of right now is to keep trying because he may just need to get used to the taste. Allimentum is by Similac, right? Does Enfamil make their version of a hypoallergenic formula? Maybe you can try looking into that. Good luck.

My daughter has the same issue. I'm breastfeeding my 5-month-old and have had to supplment due to low milk supply. She is allergic to cow's milk protein and we use Enfamil Nutramigen. It was recommended by our pediatrician. I've not heard of Allimentum but I assume it's similiar? My daughter took to the stuff right away so I'm not sure I have much advice if yours isn't accepting it. Maybe it's the bottle itself and not the formula that's the issue right now since you're using hypoallergenic?
