My 13yr son is in the 6th grade and it is getting alot harder for me to hold my ground with him He has adhd and is on meds but don't seem to be helping anymore. He seems to me to be angry with anything that is said to him. I always have him do the same things everyday so their would't be a new suprise in his day but when i say it is shower time you best be getting out of the way because he will start yelling and hitting or kicking any thing in his way. He takes alot of this out on his father to. If I say something that makes him mad he will not get angry with me he will get upset with his father. He lies to me about homework untill it is the night before it is due then he will want me to do it for him I will not and never have done his homework for him. I have had him in counsuling before but they tells us their is nothing else their but adhd. I have had him tested to see if he needed special help in school but he passes that test. I guess you can say i need to figure something out because i can no longer deal with father and son yelling and screaming anymore..... So if anyone has ideas that could help please let me know.

What can I do next?

has your son been diagnosed with depression...sometimes teens will have violent outbursts. he may need anti depressant alond with his adhd meds. has he witnessed his father doing something that has upset him in the past and now he is resentful of it? maybe you need family counseling to get to the root of why he directs his anger more at his father. has he ever been tested for odd...oppositional defieant disorder. i go to church with a woman who's son has it and it causes him to get angry very easily and then have violent outbursts...like very bad temper tantrums...throwing kicking, etc.

hey i have 2 kids who have bipolar and O.D.D. mine do the same thing when it comes to bath time.. i've went as far as not makeing them take a shower. thought maybe they would give in. NOT. so now what we do is we do bath time the same time every night and they usually want to watch tv or something. so if they want to do the games or tv,phone, computer whatever it may be.. they have to take a bath first them tthey can have it.. they know now that if they dont bath they dont get. its hard at first and wont happen over night. took me 3 weeks to get it to happen. but gotts stick to your rules..

Go to www.drjanicemorales.com .. this doctor, Dr. Janice Morales, cures and helps these kind of problems with NATURAL vitamins and minerals.

Please, call this doctor, set up an appointment and just see what your odds are.

My mom was on the vitamins that she gives her patients. She was diagnosed with Breast cancer in March, started taking these minerals called glyconutrients) The dr (not Janice) told her she would have to get her right breast removed and have chemo and radiation. She told them no!) on sept 7, she is CANCER FREE! So, if these minerals can get rid of cancer, they can help your son.

Stick to your guns.. Don't leave him, he will love you more and more in the end of all this for staying by him through your ordeal.

Sounds like you are walking on eggshells around him. He may need further psychological testing. It doesn't sound like strictly ADHD. Puberty is also a hard time for boys who are ADHD and on meds. Also, if most of the yelling is at night, it may be due to him being depleted of his medication, (i.e, crying, irritable, difficulties with homework).

hi C.. i have an 11 year old son with ADD. he is on adderall for it. right now he lives at boystown in omaha, ne. he has been to a psychiatrist, psychologist, and a therapist and nothing helped. the key i have found out through my parenting classes i am taking for boystown is to change your environment to a more positive environment and do some corrective/preventative teaching. i know that doesn't help you much right now, but i just wanted to let you know that you don't have to do this on your own, there are several places for these kids to go to get help if you can't do it at home. i was just at the point where i got frustrated and angry at him all the time and just did not know what to do for him anymore since nothing seemed to be working. he even went to live at his grandma's for 3 months and he acted up there. so, just so you know, there are places to get help. also, i would look into getting a second opinion on his meds. he may just need a change or an increase. good luck! my prayers are with you!

when my son was 11 he was the same way he has adha also. he was not on meds we tried them and he was like a zombie.i don't know where you take him to the doctor but there are several new meds out now that were not available when he was little. i would change his meds and maybe his doctor too. who told you not to change up his scheldule? that's the problem. kids with this are board with everyday they need change and they need a hobby something they love to do. my son loved legos and now at the age of 18 he takes zoloft it calms him and he is a different boy. i feel your pain i thought i was going to loose my mind and his teachers didn't want him in school. he loves to take things apart and put them back together. he now works on lawnmowers. there is help out there i'll do some reaserch and she what i can find out, meanwhile pray and get yourself on some good nerve pills. hang in there. and change his meds they get ammuned to them after a while and that sounds like his problem. may god bless you, and i will pray for you.debbie-pekin ____@____.com 812/967-1945 anytime

C.,
I work with children who have adhd and around the time of puberty they really begin to have struggles. I would talk to your doctor about his medication. He may need a dosage change or a new medication. What medicine is he on? I would also recommend getting him back into counseling. Sometimes other issues can start to arise and he may need to be reassesed. Good luck.
