I'm looking into getting a portable DVD player for my son. It will mostly be for long car trips, but I would also like the option to use it indoors. I would prefer it to be somewhat childproof, so that my son won't mess around with the buttons or eject the DVD accidentally (or on purpose!). Does such a product exist? Do you have one? Do you love it or hate it? Why? Thanks for any helpful insight you can provide!
I got a Coby car system for $300 and loved it until the 1 yr warrantly expired and then it immediately started skipping. We could never get it fixed and ended up donating it.
I suggest a digital player like a tablet or iPad. You can download anything so you don't have to worry about toting around disks, you get a clear picture every time and no skipping!
You can get these for fabulous prices right now. I paid $45 for a RCA a couple of weeks ago. I definitely wouldn't spend a ton as these things barely last a year ....we are currently on our third one. But we don't mind it getting banged up. It serves its purpose and is pretty cheap in my opinion, to keep replacing them. And the brand doesn't matter. They are all the same. Our daughter had one at 15 months old, 27 months old and now our third portable DVD player just bought at 39 months. She hasn't messed with them too much. They do get a little greasy if she were holding it while eating. And the only reason we've had to replace them is due to MY leaving them in the car and getting fried in the heat!
I haven't seen one that's childproof or somewhat childproof. If it has buttons, which it obviously will, the little man will push them. Our daughter has broken two by inserting more than one disc in the slot. The best childproofing will be 'educating' him to let only mom or dad operate it or maybe placing it on a shelf inaccessible to him and you be in control of it.
