Hi there.

You may have read my previous questions in relation to relocating to the UK. So ..... now I have many electrical items I'd like to try and sell from lamps, CD players, Printer/Fax, old TV's, Christmas outside decorations w/lights. Plus Shoes/Clothing and lastly LOTS of wooden hangers. A year ago when I had time on my hands I decided to completely overhaul my closet with wooden hangers before I realized we'd be moving home. If you aware of the closets in the UK then you know only 5 wooden hangers would fit in a wardrobe !!! In the past I've used ebay but by the time I pay shipping costs I really don't make a penny, plus the shipping costs on these large items will be too expensive. I looked Woodlands Online in the sales section to try and get an idea of how it works but could not see any mention of shipping or payment ? Is reasonable to request someone to collect the larger items ? Is it safe to have someone come to the house ? I have a paypal account, is this type of payment method used on there ? Any advise/help would be appreciated.

Ideally I'd love to have a yard sale but in The Woodlands these are not allowed.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your responses. I have just listed my first item on Woodlands Online, I didn't realize how easy it is to do. I've been using ebay for years !

I have successfully bought and sold several items on Woodlands Online. There is no shipping or fees. It is a free service. I have not had any problems with someone coming to my home. Paypal is not necessary. Cash is best. Good Luck!

Have you tried craigslist? I used them with good success. I understand your worry about having someone come to your house, maybe you and hubby could meet the buyer at a public place.

Do you have friends outside of the "Woodlands" area, maybe they could let you use their place for a few weekends. Have you considered a Resale shop?

When I lived in the Woodlands I loved using woodlands online to buy stuff and get rid of sum stuff too. It is safe and the people usually pay in cash. And as for the yard sale you actually are allowed one moving sale a year. if you have any other things that you don't want to take with you another site you can go on is houston freecycle on yahoo groups. this is just for free stuff though. like anything leftover that isn't really worth selling. good luck with the move!!!!

I have used Woodlands online in the past. I have also used www.rummagethewoodlands.com for small items I usually met them somewhere public like Kroger parking lot. With larger items I would have them come when you could have someone over or your husband was home. I would ony accept cash. I never ran into anyone funny. Mainly they were other people from The Woodlands. Just be vigilant.

I may be interested in the outdoor Christmas stuff if the price is right...!

L.,

Try Craigslist. It's totally free to list and sell things. And the only things that you aren't "allowed" to sell are guns/weapons, animals, and food. So, everything else goes. I use the site ALL the time and really haven't had a bad encounter yet as far as someone coming to my home to p/u an item. However, I would not ship! There are scammers out there, and you will know when they use the wording...."I will have my shipper collect the item and will increase your amount b/c of having to deal with a shipper....." and so on like that. Even the little or big things that don't sell before you need to move you can always list for free. Another bit of advice...always accept cash. Never a check. And, while you have paypal, I personally have never used it with Craigslist customers. I'm sure you can, but I wouldn't know how to begin to tell you how well that would work. Mostly everyone uses cash and they have no issue with it. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have or walk you through posting an ad. Just let me know. Thanks.
