I am in need of a new furnace/air conditioning unit. Any recommendations? We've had a Trane for 15 years through Lett's with a 15 year warrenty. They went out of business and it's been a money pit ever since. Who do I trust?
I have just had ours replaced by Scott Lee Heating and Cooling. I have dealt with them for nine years and they have always done a great job. They deal in Lennox units. There are a lot of rebates right now too. (Lennox, sheet metal union, Laclede Gas total around $800).

I don't know where exactly you are located, but I recommend you getting with your local Community Action Agency...they typically will give you an a/c if you have a life-threatening condition which requires it (which I realize might not be your case), and if you do not qualify that way, they probably have a weatherization program that could help get you air/heat/home upgrades...it's a process, so not an Immediate Today type solution, but I imagine that would be a help in the long run for you. Like I said, I don't know where you are, but I'd start inquiring with your local community action agency & other non-profit organizations/churches for assistance. Good Luck.
We went through sears and it has been great. I like that it is a big company with a trusted name. Bought the cheapest unit with appropriate size and it has been wonderful.
D., hope I'm not too late in commenting...last unit I put in was a Trane. Our new house has York. I got a good deal on the Trane for our old house but I was also with a heating/cooling company I really trusted. My recommendation would be to call a manufacturing plant locally and see who THEY use to fix their stuff...chances are they have the best local company.
You may also want to call the base family support, they may have a list of companies who the military has worked with before that they recommend/don't recommend. If base can't help, do you have a local VFW or American Legion or even a Guard Unit? Someone there surely has a recommendation...I've never met a man who wouldn't give you a recommendation when you needed one...LOL.
I totally feel for you on this one...my water heater went out the month after hubby left for Iraq...seemed like the whole house waited to fall apart until after he left...in this case...you are really trial by fire! Hope you guys are able to find a way to temporarily stay cool!
my husband has been doing heat and air for over 15yrs now and usually NAMES dont count for anything. We have an Armstrong, sure youve never heard of it. Have had it for over 10 years and works fine. $300 thats all we paid. Most of your money goes into labor. Trane is what my husband puts in for the company he works for. They are very good. 15yrs is a long time to have a unit. Plus nowdays they make them so much more efficiant. So it really doesnt matter which name you use, its the company that puts it in. or the person, my husband does a lot on the side and he is the absolute best. so I would look for a reputable company. Notsomuch sears they usually have guys that dont know what they are doin. and really hike up their prices. my two cents
