Mine was about 18 lbs and 28 inches at 10 months (now nearly 11 months). Everyone thinks he is chubby, so I think your son sounds fine.

at 9.5 months my son was 28 inches and almost 18 pounds. He is almost four now and still smaller than some friends but healthy and growing fine. Both my husband and myself are smaller framed and height.
I notice my son has two big growth spurts every year it seems......one morning he just wakes up and his pants are too short I swear!

My son is the same age and about same weight. He was in the 3rd percentile for weight at his last check up but he is healthy. His height was in the 50th %. The dr makes sure he has fat on his butt and where he should. My fist son was the same way. Some babies are just smaller than others. No need to worry. People even say my son is a big baby and when i tell them he is under weight, they cant believe it. Every baby is different and charts dont always mean everything.

Don't worry about it... every kid is different. My son was 17 lbs at 9 months. My daughter weight nearly 18 lbs at 4 months. As long as your son is following his percentile curve and not dropping off he's growing just fine.

Hi K.!
I have to boys - both are on the slender side. Don't worry! Both of mine eat and are very active. My son who is now 3 1/2 has started to eat a lot more. Anyway, when my first son was 9 mo. he weighed 19 lbs. and was 28 3/4". When my other son was 9 mo. he weighed 18 lbs. and was 28" long. I was always slender growing up and it looks like both my sons are destined for that too. The doctor predicts they will be "roughly" 5'10" and 160 lbs.....

My son just turned two, but my neice just turned 9 months old and my sister-in-law and i were talking about that too because my niece is 18.1 lbs and 27in long on the smaller side we thought until I looked at my sons 9 month check up and he was only 18 lbs on the head...but was 30 1/2 inches long (thanks to my very tall husband). I have 4 co-workers that had babies within 2 months of me....and our kids were all about the same weight every checkup - 4 boys and 1 girl(within ounces of each other, just length seemed to vary). Sounds to me your son is doing just fine.

Do not even worry. As long as he is reaching his milestones he is fine. I had the same thing with my son. He was in the 50th % for everything from the day he was born up until 9 months when he was increasingly mobile. The Dr was worried, but he is so active is running and talking. He is just not as hefty as most his age. Do not worry. Every child is different and your son's weight is fine. My son went from 50th to 3rd on the charts, yes it was alarming, but we know as parents he is fine.

My DD was 21 lbs and 30 in at 10 months and my DS was only 18 lbs and 28 in at 10 months. They are all so different. My DD just turned 3 today and is still at the high end of the charts and my little peanut is barely on the chart. Seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. Both were/are breastfed but grew completely differently. My DD was my son's size at 6 months when he was 9 months.

Ask your ped where he falls on the charts.
My oldest and my youngest were around 22 lbs and 27 inches at that age. I think the oldest was a little bigger. My middle child was not even close...maybe 15 or 16 lbs. She's four now and only 28lbs soaking wet. Her height is average, but she's way down at the 5th percentile for weight. It's genetic. Her father and I were both very small when young. Unfortunately I'm not anymore, but the hubby still is.

My daughter is 9 1/2 months and is just about exactly the same weight and height as your son. We were just at the doctor yesterday and they said she is a little on the small side but nothing to be concerned about. If she doesn't continue to gain weight or grow then they said get worried but at this point nothing to be concerned about.

Hi-Don't worry. My sister has twins, one always larger than the other. At their kindergarten check-up the Dr. told her the smaller twin was "just the right size ...for a 3-1/2 yr. old." But he did fine. Today they are college freshmen, as different as night and day and perfectly healthy. As long as he is healthy and active and the Dr. has no concerns be happy. B.

your pediatrician will be able to tell you what percentil that is or you can google infant growth charts. I think babycenter has a good one and it will tell you how he compares to an average child. I believe the docs are most interested in whether he is following a specific curve rather than the exact weight ie if he is 20th percentile at 6 months and 20 percentile at 8 months and 20 percentile at 10 months then he is fine. But if he stagnates and doesn't put on any weight, then they worry. But this is all something you should discuss with the pediatrician. Good Luck.

Hi K.,
My daughter weighed a few oz. less than that at her one-year check-up. As long as your pediatrician is not concerned, I wouldn't be either. I was 16.5 lbs. at one year myself, and my sister-in-law was 15 lbs. We both turned out to be normal sized children and adults. As long as your son is eating well, I wouldn't be too concerned -- different people have different growing patterns. And nowadays, I know that pediatricians are more concerned with the growing number of overweight babies. It doesn't seem like your son is at risk for that, which is a good thing.
Best,
R.

I would talk to the doctor if you are concerned. Children come in all different sizes weight/height charts are just a guide. If i went by the charts I would have been stuffing food into my one daughter, 18 lbs at a year and my other daughter would have been on a diet from the day she was born, 21 lbs at one and off the charts for height. As long as the doctor is not concerned and he's eating healthy meals I would not be to concerned. My daughters are now healthy teenagers who are just the right size. One short and petite and the other one tall and a size 3! To be that small again!LOL!

The range is so different for the first couple of years. I think they really watch the percentile and overall growth. My first 3 didn't reach 20 lbs until they were a year old but they were fine-and they were preemies. My little one was 20 pounds at 8 months, 21 at 10 and is currently about 23 but she is tall as well, 32 inches. I asked the doctor last time if she was growing well since she still only takes a 4 ounce bottle. She never made it to the larger ones. She said that they will watch her growth and as long as she is developing fine, no problems to worry about. She already running around so i kknow she is going to come out fine next month at her 12th. My nephew was 25 pounds at 7 months. A friend's baby is only 3 months and weighs in at about 15 pounds. BTW, my son is now 10. His sisters are a little taller but I know that that he will get that growth spurt in HS and pass us by. Enjoy the changes and discoveries your son makes in the coming months.

My little guy is the same age and very close in size to your son. Yes, on the charts, he's small but if their healthy and happy, that's what's most important. Just out of curiousity, are you breastfeeding? The stats tend to lean a bit more towards formula-fed babies, too.

At my daughter's 9 month appointment she was 16 lbs. 11 oz. and 27 1/2". My pediatrician wasn't concerned because she is a good eater and I still nurse 3-4 times a day. She is very active.
