I don't know much about American House, but I do know Bruce Frandsen who is a manager at Sunrise Senior Living of North Farmington Hills. They are at 29681 Middlebelt Road between northwestern and 13 in Farmington Hills, MI 48334. It's a beautiful, friendly and caring facility. You can call him at ###-###-####. Best of luck to you. S.

My grandparents moved into the American House in Sterling Heights almost a year ago. Although my grandfather recently passed away, the staff there was WONDERFUL to both of them! In fact, a few times, it was the staff who alerted my family to my grandfather's need of assistance later in the evening or early mornings before family had yet arrived. And now, with my grandfather gone, they seem to take extra special care of my grandmother knowing that she is lonely and missing my grandfather. She has trouble with her memory and doesn't always remember to do things for herself and they are there to see that she's taken care of. I can't speak for the entire chain of them, but the one we have experience with is wonderful!

Hi M.,
I moved my grandmother from Sunrise North Ann Arbor to American House Farmington Hills about 8 months ago. Sunrise was very nice, as someone else had mentioned, but very expensive which is why my grandma had to move.
I don't think there is a "perfect" place, but American House has been good. The staff has treated her well, and the medical staff has been good with her medications. It is clean, well-maintained and well-run. They keep track of the residents and notice and check on them if they don't come down for meals. The only complaints I have is there has been turnover with the head nurses in the medical office, and my grandma is not thrilled with the food. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a more expensive place (not as many activities, not as many shopping trips, etc.), but overall, I would definitely recommend them.
Good Luck!
A.

I am a former employee of the American House; I was one of their many Activity Director & Assistant Managers, for over two years.
I absolutley loved my job! The service which the American House family of staff offers to their Residents and Families was great.

pss. M., I agree with the comments made below about each American House Community being different. Also, that some of their facilities do need to be updated....so you really have to shop around. What town /community of southern MI are you looking at? It really will make an influence in your decision. But over all....this is a great organization to work with.
Trust that this information is helpful in making your difficult decision. Feel free to contact me any time.

I worked at AH for 4 yrs every AH is different is there one in particular that you are looking into? Some have different levels of care so depending on the level I think depends on the quality of the community. I think some of the communities could use some updating but again it depends on the area. Hope this helps!

I've had experience with various American House chains while working a VFW Veterans Service Office in Detroit. If either your father and/or mom is a Vet, sometimes the VA will help pay for assisted living facilities. Check with your local American House co-ordinator (who should have plenty of info to provide you) or feel free to email me and I can refer you to your local Veterans Service Rep for assistance. I don't work in the Veterans Service Office field any longer (am now a SAHM) but still have some really good contacts I can put you in touch with. The Veterans Service Offices will assist you free of charge, as they are non-profit and funded by the State of MI. And if your dad is a Vet, even if deceased, your mom may still be entitled to this benefit. Good luck and let me know if you need more info.
