Any Bird Experts?

I have a robin that keeps attacking my upstairs window. I can't reach the window to put a sticker or something on it. It's been going on for weeks. I keep going outside to yell at it and chase it away, but he comes back every single day. Wakes me up constantly. Any suggestions on how to get him to stop? (short of shooting him)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, he stopped. Must be the end of mating season. Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

Get a large silhouette of an owl or predator bird (like a hawk) and stick it on the INSIDE of the window. That may help. (I'm hoping the inside of the window is accessible from the inside.....)

He is seeing his reflection and sees another bird in his territory, so he is "attacking" it, trying to chase it away.

Had this same problem with a cardinal a couple years ago. Could be 3 for that matter. Anyway, hubby was ready to put out a hit on this bird. Close to asking someone else to do it. (couldn't do his own dirty work). I objected. what I did was got a pinata at Meijers and hung it in the window. Chances are the bird sees his reflection and thinks it's another bird. With a pinata or something to scare it away, the problem might resolve. In my case it only helped at first and then didn't seem to see the pinata. Give it a shot or clip any bush outside that window. That was part of the problem too. Eventually the bird did move on.

Do you have a screen on the outside of the window? I know you said you can get up there put on a sticker, but can you attach some screen on the outside of the window from the inside? Just regular old screen (for screened in porches) that you buy at a home improvement store will do. Hope this helps!

Try putting something on the end of a pole to stick to the window. or Send up a balloon. It is mating season he will soon be gone. If balloon or something stuck too your window is worth a little more sleep for you.

There must be bugs or spiders or something there... if you grab the garden hose, would the water reach that window from the outside? Give it a nice hard rinse off... if it IS bugs the birds after, maybe this will stop it.

He sees his reflection and thinks it is another robin competing for his territory. If there is something you can do to make the glass less reflective, it would help.

It is a male robin and he sees his reflection and thinks it is another male bird. He is defending his territory. We had this happen in our last house. I used soap to draw a big design over the entire window and our robin stopped doing it. You can put on a lot of window stickers (or make your own with construction paper) too. You need to put on something so that his reflection is broken up. Eventually he will stop.

I am no expert, but I have had the same issue for the last 3 years. I asked at the Wild Birds Unlimited store and they told me it's the male robin defending his territory against that "other male robin" he sees in the reflection of your window. Stickers will not help. Those stickers are to help birds see something in the way so they don't just randomly hit your windows. My robin stopped about a week ago...mating season is almost over so yours should stop soon! My robin has even left blood on my windows....Maybe this is where the term "bird brain" comes from.

Try putting a fake snake as high as you CAN reach. Birds hate snakes. It works for my grandma's garden!
