Hello Mommies,
I have a dear friend who is not good at using computer/internet. She is 40 years old and experiencing early menopause unfortunately. She lives in Los Angeles area. She already has two kids and does not want to have any more, so infertility is not her concern, rather she is concerned about her general health related to this premature menopause and would like to seek medical advises from the best expert who is dealing with this condition including the most appropriate Hormonal Replacement Therapy for her. She has got some general guideline from her OB-GYN, but she feels this doctor has had experience with a lot of menopause cases at a normally expected age ranges, but not with younger women having menopause. So she wants to go for a second opinion from a doctor who has a lot of experience with early menopause cases. I will pass along any good referrals and/or suggestions from you to her.

Thank you!
Jen

Hi Jen,
The most powerful treatment I do in my LA practice is bring back women's hormone levels, rhythms, and cycles to where they used to be before menopause. This is crucial to do in women during and after menopause, and especially for premature menopause and early menopause.

Best advice is - educate yourselves! Start with www.drjohnlee.com & his series of books "What your doctor may not tell you about..." Menopause, Premenopause, Breast Cancer... We've created so many chemicals that affect our hormones that 85% of women over 35 are "estrogen dominant". Too much estrogen is not good for us.

In some countries, they don't even have a name for menopause because women go through the change without the major symptoms we have here. Doctors will readily prescribe an anti-depressant based on the symptoms you describe but when it comes to hormones... or bio-identical hormones... they want "proof" or "evidence" that there is a problem & solution. There's so much info on this topic - feel free to msg me if you want more but Dr. Lee is a great resource to start with.

Hi Jen,

Tell her good luck. Sorry I don't have a recommendation for a doc in that area but can tell you/her that in my late 30's I was convinced I was pre-menopausal. I went to 4 docs in 2 years and they all basically told me I was nuts. If you do not fit into a text book case and symptoms docs really are semi-clueless.
I finally found a doc who said I was not too young and was the first doc to offer to draw the blood work to prove it! I did do the natural bio-identical hormones for about 4 years but also started changing my diet and lifestyle so I can't really tell you which helped more. Although now at 48 and closer to the real menopause age I am doing well.
I guess if I had any advice at all is to tell her not to give up. Go to several docs if need be. I remember by mother in law, who actually is a wonderful woman, said that I couldn't just keep going to docs until I found one to tell me what I wanted to hear! It's not that I wanted them to just agree with me but not dismiss me and try to just give me another prescription.

Good luck and in good health,

Lori K
