Hi R.,
I encourage you to google the book, "Smart Medicine for a Healthier Child; an A-Z guide to Natural and Conventional Treatments for Infants and Children", by J. Zand et all. You may even be able to read the section on fever.
Fever is the body's immune response to fight off infection and help him get well. Imo, treating a fever with tylenol/motrin tricks the body into thinking it doesn't need to fight anymore. Once the meds wear off, the fever spikes again because the body realizes it still needs to fight the fight. With my children, I keep them hydrated, use a tepid bath and homeopathics if they have a fever. I know it's scary to see our little ones sick but allowing his body to do what it was designed to do is the best thing for him.
I encourage you to let him rest, keep him comfortable, offer fluids or popsicles to keep him hydrated, vitamin C & D are great supplements to aid the healing and homeopathics are safe for children. A natural health store should carry these products or be able to recommend somewhere you can find them.
Hope your little man feels better soon.
Peace,
J.
