How could I MISS the troll :-). We will take it easy and BBQ tomorrow but the County fair has Fireworks on Friday so will wait til then to see them.
Any fun plans for the Fourth? We're going to a neighborhood kids parade in the morning. Which is good, because the official fireworks the city puts on don't start until late, and Kiddo's got morning camp on Thurs.
Michele/Cat-- I'll skip the rainbow cocktail, but if you could send a stiff gin martini my way, that would be fantastic!
Cheryl O-- I always appreciate your spirit. You are probably the most patriotic person I've ever come across. (and I mean that in a good way.:) )
GrammaRocks-- I hope today is a very special one for you and your family, in honor of your father.

ETA: Thanks H.!! One of my friends who is currently in Afghanistan for the 4th time - flew a flag over the camp on 01/01/12 just for me - had a picture taken of it with the boots and guns of those who had died in battle - and signed it for me. It hangs proudly in my front hall. Our flags - Old Glory and the Gadsden Flag flies at our home 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
And yeah - I call my representatives weekly!!! They know me by name.
H.:
We are doing fireworks right out front - we have A LOT - and we go to the end of our driveway and set off fireworks in our cul-de-sac!!!!
YAHOO!!
GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!
As to the Troll???? DO NOT FEED THE TROLL!!!!
We are a military family, so we will watch the fireworks on post. They will read off when each state became a state and then fire a cannon--50 cannons in all. That is one of my favorite parts:) Wild horses couldn't drag us from celebrating our great nation!
First, I plan to not cook a thing, so it's up to the guys to figure out what we are eating. Next, I will be trying my hardest not to burst into flames, as it is supposed to be 102 degrees with full sun. Oy!
I live in mid-MO, & all local fireworks are under a ban for the entire holiday. No fireworks for our neck of the woods.
Hitting mid-week, our options are to celebrate thru food & family/friends. I chose to keep my daycare open for the day, because I have 2 families without backup care & scheduled to work. Not a biggie, but a decision I am regretting at the moment. Sleeping in sounds really good!
Soooo, we're going to hang our flag. I'm going to send a msge to my Navy Nephew. & we're going to have FOOD. & that's about it. :)
Hi H.-
Fireworks for the town just finished a few minutes ago...
Tomorrow...I make potato salad...beans...hot dogs/hamburgers (and all the fixings) and we do our own little fireworks display (starting off with our rendition of the national anthem!!)
I tried tonight, the 'fourth of july drink' that a mom had posted (Hawaiian punch...blue poweraid...and sprite...) it was supposed to 'layer'...but mostly we had a purple drink...lol
I will come up with something else 'kid' friendly...
For me, I will rotate between pomegranate...and blue...and plain martinis!!
Best luck!

We always go to my sister's on the 4th. Her husband's sister and BIL come too. My son (13) will be coming along, but my daughter (17) has plans with friends for their own party at a local park/lake.
We celebrated Canada Day on the first by taking in our city's big fireworks display. The fireworks started at 11:00pm, and we got home at 12:30. The boys and I got up and left for an overnight camping trip the next morning, from which we have just arrived home, hot and tired. On the fourth my baby is turning seven!!! (although I have been referring to him as my seven year old for a couple of months already.) His party isn't until Saturday, but I will take him out for dinner, go-carts and ice cream tomorrow.
Me and my boyfriend don't realty celebrate like normal. We will go see a movie and out for a fancy dinner like we did last year. It's SO hot so we don't do many things outside but what we do is very fun.
Tomorrow is my neighborhood's favorite time of year. There's a little strip of firework stands on your way out here - we live at the end of a small peninsula on the Sound.
Anyway, the stands are on Indian Nation land, so they sell fireworks that aren't legal elsewhere (aka the fun ones :-) Our little association goes all out. At dusk we gather at the bulkhead watch as folks try to outshine one another. The result is total chaos and mayhem, dozens of BIG beautiful explosions in the sky, all at once, and for hours and hours.
Tomorrow we'll have some friends out here, let the littles run around, and we'll probably pretend it's warmer than it is and put them in swimsuits to go wading on the (very NW) beach. Until we moved here I wasn't really into the fourth. Now I look forward to it for weeks - when in Rome...
On the fifth the girls and I will grab some big garbage bags and walk along the sea line, picking up trash from the night before. That's a bummer, seeing what happens as a result of the fun.
We're having a BBQ/Birthday party, and fireworks in the evening. We have 3 birthdays this month, my sister, my nephew and my Dad, who passed in February. It was suggested to us by the hospice social worker that we make a deal about celebrating Dad's birthday, even if we never had when he was alive (we did) to help us with the grieving process.
We couldn't face a party on his actual birthday, July 22, so decided to do it tomorrow and honor him with a BBQ which he loved, and since it's not his actual birthday we decided to combine the others with it. (My nephew is still getting to go miniature golfing and will have cake with his friends and cousins on his day, the 11th, since he's still a kid.)
We're serving all Dad's fave foods, I'm making an ice cream cake in a bit, and hopefully it will help us to remember all the fun we had with him over the years, he LOVED the 4th and setting off fireworks, so I'm looking at it that the ones we set off are for him : )

Thanks, H.!
We watched fireworks a couple of miles away tonight (far enough away that our cat walked to the next cul de sac with us and wasn't scared). Tomorrow morning, my son is supposed to be in a parade with the scouts, but I don't think he'll be able to wake up in time. Tomorrow night we'll go to see the city fireworks. Planning ahead to bring folding chairs, bug repellant, frozen water bottles, glow sticks, and lots of patience for the traffic.
