Anybody Have House Rabbits?

I had a house rabbit and she was the best pet ever.
I kept her cage in the bathroom and she would hop her way in there when she had to go. She was litter box trained and I kept her littler box in her cage.
A friend of mine kept her cage in their laundry room.
And yes, they are messy. One thing you can do to reduce the mess is to attach fiberglass paneling to the lower half of the cage. This will help to keep droppings and hay within cage limits.

When I was a kid, we had a rabbit who lived in the house. He used a litter box, just like the cats. Because he was box-trained, he could just hop around the house as he pleased, and his bowl of veggies and alfalfa kibbles sat next to the cats' food dishes. They would all sleep in a big heap, he and the cats. It was very cute. We did have to put wire covers over anything we had plugged in, because we were afraid he would chew the power cords (though he never did). Anyhow, you might see if they will go in a litter box. Many rabbits can be trained to. Then you don't have to worry about an enclosure so much.

No suggestions, but wanted to say what happy little rabbits you must have! I love rabbits, but cannot have them- I'm very allergic. They are great pets with great personalities. It is nice to hear how well your rabbits are being treated:) Sorry no advice here...

Had a bunny in the house for a few years before kids...after a kid or two...when they were toddlers...and the eldest asked if 'IT' was a raisin...we had a wonderful bunny 'condo' built for the backyard right quick!!!

I had outdoor rabbits as a kid, for pets (brothers w/ allergies = no indoor pets). We kept them in 2-story hutches, attached to the garage, with heavy duty wire around the outside of the cage (think of them as "bars over the windows--for protection from occasional stray dogs or other animals). Then, we had basically a big X-pen thing that we set out on the grass to put them out in to let them eat some grass and run around in.

I'm sorry I don't have any direct experience with house rabbits, but I would suggest you call or email your local House Rabbit Society chapter---they will have good advice, I'm sure! :)

My family and I had a indoor rabbit her name was Princess. She was a wonderful joy when we Watched her out Outside of the cage! But boy when we give her too much free time, that's when things went wrong she would find a corner in the house an have her way( she would pull up the carpet, pee her calcium pee, make a pile of pellets all in a matter of minutes ). We changed to hardwood so she had to stay in her cage for a while but when she finally got out she was a changed bunny!!!! So my tip would be just keep a close eye on those loving, exotic, energetic rabbit's.

i used the child fence enclosures to create a space under our stairs for our bunny to hang out. i put out a grass mat for him to lay on, and a litter box for him to use. and i let him run around the house occasionally.

Can you put something partway up the sides of the hutch to stop the stuff from being kicked out? I did this for a birdcage once and it worked. Has to be metal so they cant chew it, but just something about 6 inches tall to keep it from flying out. My sister is a preschool director and has rabbits all the time in the classroom. She had a table built to hold the hutch with just enough space around it and had 6 inch walls build on the table. It reminds me of the kids sand and water tables. Only its the right size to hold the hutch, down at eye level for 3 yr olds. Works great.

I had a house rabbit when I was younger, he used the litter box along with the cats. We also had a nice hutch built for him that we kept outside and would put him away when we left.
