Hi L.
I would call the family court in your county, they can tell you exactly what you need to do in order to gain custody.
Hi Everyone~ My sister in law might be sending her daughter to live with my mother in law in september. If this happens, my husband and I will be seeking temporary or permananent legal custody of her. Do I need a lawyer or is this something you just file for through family court? Thanks

yes you just file through domestic relations because you are family.
hi L.
no but my dad and step-mother took my son away from me. and all i get is the visitation rights to see him and thats been going on for 8 years now. and it's been hell to get him back. plus it's been hard to see him also since i don't drive at all. getting transportion is hard to find also.

TOTALLY get a lawyer.
My mom has my son & she had to go through family courts & get a lawyer but you can get a public defender for it if you cant afford one.
I have custody of my two neices, but my sister willingly gave them to me so she could get her life back on track. If the mom isn't willing, to give you custody you might want to consult a lawyer to see if you have any legal rights.
