I don't have any experience with this- I just read your post and felt compelled to send you some good wishes and happy thoughts!
I am almost 16 weeks pregnant and recently had lab work come back with an elevated "CMV" level. My doctors had called me to have me come back in and get more lab work done to see if it is something I got in the past or if it is an active infection. Since I have worked in daycare since I was 17 and now run my own in- home day care, that is the most likely way I picked up this virus. If this next level comes back elevated again they will be sending me to a genetics counsler since having a active infection can cause abnormalities to my unborn baby. I have a doctors appt. later today but I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else and the outcome. I am scared and worried that all of this could happen to me and pray that I have a healty baby, either way if there was something wrong I would continue my pregnancy and love my child no matter what. Just looking for some others who have been in this situation.
Thank you everyone for the advice and well wishes. I went to the doctor yesterday and he told me it looks like a past infection and I shouldn't be worried. Thank you all so much!

I was in the doctors a couple months ago and I tested positive for CMV. My doctor told me I could of had it along time ago. I thought she said it was the same as mono. I wasn't pregnant at the time, but have had 3 healthy kids over the past 7 years. So I would just be hoping you had it in the past and it just comes up in your blood work. Do some online research. Check out this link. Best of luck to you. http://www.health.state.ny.us/diseases/communicable/cytom...
I was 19 weeks pregnant when I was exposed to a baby who was born with many issues as a result of her mother contracting CMV. All of my tests during pregnancy came back that I did not contract CMV as a result of the exposure, and Ruby was born without any problems whatsoever. The little girl I was watching and later found out carries the virus is a year and a half, is deaf, cannot sit but does scoot around the floor by rolling around. She is mentally challenged as well, but I do not know to what extent. From my research after being exposed, this little girl is pretty much worse case scenario. The chances of passing the virus to the baby during pregnancy are less during early pregnancy because there is less blood flow, but the outcome would be worse if it did cross the placenta. Later on during pregnancy, passing it to the baby is more likely but less detrimental since the baby is already well-formed. Things to watch for would be an abnormally small head and not passing the hearing test at birth, since deafness is often one of it's symptoms. http://www.bcm.edu/web/pediatrics/documents/CMV_Brochure_... is a good resource. This is a virus that, once you have it, can come and go at will without any symptoms (or it can carry cold/flu symptoms). Just because it is positive does not necessarily mean you currently have it and am passing/can pass it on to your baby during the pregnancy.
This was really scary for me during my pregnancy, but everything was fine in the end. Praying the same is true for you!
Hey N. it's R.. I haven't heard of this but you know that I will pray for you. Let me know how things are and if you need anything. P.S. Take care of my little one today. LOL!!
This has not happened to me but it did happen to a friend of our family. I'm not overly close to the woman it happened to so I don't know all of the details but I know they were VERY concerned during her pregnancy. Thank God, their baby is now just over a year old and she seems to be developing quite well. She's taking a little bit longer to hit some of her developmental milestones but, overall, she's doing really well, considering what could have happened. And these delayed milestones might just be "normal" and have nothing to do with the CMV (it's hard to tell). I feel for you and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. It sounds like you have a great outlook and attitude going into this and your unborn child is bound to feel that positive energy. This baby is so lucky to have you as a mother :)
