I am currently 24 weeks pregnant and was told that my baby girl has low amniotic fluids (enough for lung development) due to two small kidneys .. I am wondering what the outcomes are and if anyone has gone through this.. Please help thanks

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Update: my daughter does not have small kidneys! They are normal sized and functioning just fine! After the sono I demanded an MRI and the results came back they are normal. When I asked the nurse why the perinatologist scared me she said well sonograms aren't very accurate!! Then do some tests instead of scaring me silly! As relieved as I am I am so pissed at them!

But my fluids is still borderline normal and no reason still where it's going.. My doctor just thinks it might be the heat..

Thank you all for your comments you were all right!!

I was told my baby girl might have only one kidney - at 20 weeks. So we had another sonogram a month or so later. My baby is now 20 years old and perfectly helthy. I'm not sure if prenatal tests are always a good thing when docs tell us all the things that *might* be or might not.

My sin and DIL were told of kidney issues. 3 kidneys, a split kidney. She is now 4. No kidney issues at all. There are a lot of variables when it comes to small kidneys. I would sit with your doctor and have all your questions answered. I was pregnant in the 70s and think we were all better off. These u/s cause more grief for mothers to be. I won't say try to relax because it's hard to do. Good luck.

I was told my daughter was missing a bone in her finger. The perinatologist was nearly certain she had Down Syndrome. My daughter is not missing a bone in her finger and she does not have Down syndrome.

Best of luck. I know how scary this is.

It seems like it would be their job to tell you about outcomes, etc. Didn't they counsel you on that?

It's entirely possible the angle/position of your child wasn't good enough for the sonogram to get a good view and everything is fine - you just can't see anything very well for right now.
If your doctor is concerned he/she might have you try drinking water as much as possible - stay well hydrated - and see if that makes any difference in your amniotic fluid level.
