Anyone Have a White House?

Wanting white siding on our new home. If you have one, or know someone who does is it a nightmare to keep clean? I realize you'd have to pressure wash it at least twice a year but I don't want it to look bad on a daily basis.

What can I do next?

We have tan vinyl siding with white trim.
Where we are it's pretty humid most of the year and the north side of the house gets mildew over time.
Every few years we wash it down with a bleach solution and a soft bristle brush then rinse it.
It looks great!

Think about the color of the soil in your area.... if it is reddish, then the iron in the soil may stain the siding.....

Our neighbor has one. It doesn't look bad when it is dirty. I didn't even realize it was dirty until they washed it, and it looked great.

My house isn't white but it's a very light gray. I have never had to pressure wash it, although I have hosed it down a few times after a hard rain. And as for staining...if you get a good siding it won't stain. In fact, my siding is guaranteed not to stain.

I had it on our old house in PA and it didn't get that dirty. We didn't have any trees close to the home and it sat on the middle of one acre on a quiet street.

Are you going with vinyl siding? Most of the colors will be fine I don't think they fade like the old metal siding. I am not sure what part of TX you are in but if it gets humid like Florida then you will probably have to pressure wash it, I know here I see sides of buildings turning green when they don't get a lot of sun (both siding or stucco).

Any color siding is going to show dirt and fading. The sun does it's own thing too. Color or white, have it look how you want it. Ours has blue and it sort of glowed in the dark when we first got it but over the past couple of years it has toned down a great deal and looks a bunch lighter.

I have a brown brick but there are a number of white siding homes in my neighborhood. I have never seen the owner pressure wash and they look fine. I have seen one guy hose down the bottom part after a particularly muddy summer but that's about it. I think it would depend more on how much dust is in the air where you live.

I have white vinyl siding on my house in Texas. It doesn't look bad when it's dirty. We've been in a stage 3 drought for a few years so I haven't pressure washed it. I just can't, knowing the water is in short supply. So I take a broom and sweep the dust off. I know it would be prettier to wash it and I will when the drought contingency is lifted.

Blessings!

Ours is white-stained cedar, has been the same way for over 20 years - we don't pressure wash it nearly as often as you say, actually. White stays cooler in the summer, in our experience.

If we want to change up the colors, it's much cheaper to paint the front door or the shutters than the whole house.

If there's a large section of your house that never gets any sun, you might have a mold problem, but that would show up on any light-colored house. We find a good shot with a regular hose or just regular dish soap or baking soda or vinegar takes care of it.

don't know about the color but I would do hardy board instead of vinyl siding. Thinking of having my siding replaced with hardy board. It comes in fish scale and other patterns and is what they are building beach houses out of now. Easy to paint and keep up. Looks better than vinyl siding.

Mine is white, and it's fine. Not too dirty, and we don't wash nearly as often as the HOA wants us to. (They are always asking us to do some spot-cleaning, like where a tree has been trimmed.)

Sure, we have a White House. We power wash it about once a year, when we power wash the deck, the swing set etc. A wash with a hose is all it needs, though.

I have light yellow siding with lots of white trim, and it just needs a hosing with siding cleaner twice a year. I actually take a long duster and dust aroung the front door and back porch entrance, as both of these seem to collect dust quicker. The first time my neighbor saw me do this, he almost bust a gut laughing!

I have read that you should not have siding pressure washed, because the spray gets in the little holes and soaks the wood underneath (mold, mold, mold). I would definitely check with siding folks before you go that route.
