A friend of mine is remodeling her home and picking out all new vinyl siding. She really wants to go with the cocoa color, but is concerned about it fading. The front of her house is in direct sunlight for most of the day.
Anyone have any experience with this?
Ok, so to add to my question what is the best siding option out there? Vinyl? Aluminum? Hardie Board?

What can I do next?

My siding is aluminum and I would guess that it's 20-30 years old. It's chocolate brown and hasn't faded in a way that I've noticed. I don't know if there's a difference between aluminum and vinyl but I would think that a good-quality vinyl would be dyed all the way through and would hold its color.

Yes, most everything that has pigment is effected by the sunlight and weather.

i would ask them for addresses of houses in your area that they've done in the past so you can see for yourself how the product ages.

Vinyl fades, not aluminum but with full sunlight for more than 25% of the day, may fade even the aluminum. I would be sure to talk it over with the company doing the siding they may not be aware of how much sun she gets there. We have a house that gets FULL sun in morning on back side and FULL sun after noon on the front side. The backside has some fading and the front its very minimal.

My siding is white so who knows but my neighbor has brown and so far as I can tell it is the same color it has always been. If it has faded it has faded in a way that is uniform.

In my opinion vinyl is the best but I haven't looked at the products out there for around 20 years so things may have changed.

When I replaced the siding on my house about 10 years ago, I looked at both vinyl and hardie board. I decided on hardie board because I heard that sometimes vinyl will melt if you don't pay attention and put your grill too close to it and sometimes people will run the lawnmower to close to the bottom edge and it can break. Finding a replacement can be hard. At the time hardie board was $500 more for the whole house. Plus you can paint hardie board.

I have yellow siding - mine hasn't faded. It was put on the house before we bought it - we've lived there for five years.

The sunshine can fade anything. But where you live I am sure it wouldn't be as noticeable as it would be here in Florida or another area where the sun is out most of the time.
