I've had success with Zicam in the past. Lots of rest, fluids, if it is phlemy cough try mucinex that is the best thing for my kids.
Good Luck and I hope you get feeling better soon!

Hi T.,
Go to Rite-Aid and get No Time for Colds in the cough and cold section. BETTER than Zicam, Zucol, anything out there. Make sure you follow the directions as it has always worked!
Feel better!

Gargle with 1/2 strength (or full strength) Listerine (or generic brand) every 20 mintues until your throat does not hurt any more. It is best to do this at the very 1st sign of getting sick, but it can help when you are already sick. ...and yes, it will hurt at first, but it's one of those, 'a bit more pain now, for less pain through the day or through the night'.
Cloriseptic (spelling?) spray (or generic brand) can help numb your soar throat too. Let's hope you are a better aim than I, I end up numbing my cheeks and lips and tongue too, but it does help.
Hope you feel better soon.

One other trick that I use besides he vicks on the chest, neck and nose is a mixture of honey and apple cider vinegar. The honey has natural bacteria fighting abilities and the vinegar helps cut the mucus. The mixture is usually about 50/50 but is not too important overall. Mix it to taste!! Take a few tablespoons every 2-3 hours the first day. Less is needed later.
I use this with my whole family, and my kids don't have any problems with taking their "cough drop" drink.
Feel better!!

For sore throat, use 1/2 tsp sage (ordinary spice in the spice ilse at the grocery) and mix with 8 oz boiling water. Add a little honey to taste, sage can be a little bitter. If you have a mesh spoon or other mesh container small enough for a cup, use it so you don't have to strain the tea.
Sage tea works wonders on a sore throat. I also like the NICE throat lozenges. They are very soothing and help the tickle from the cough.
Good luck and it will pass. Get lots of rest and drink lots of water and steam yourself with a towel over your head above the sink.

You could try taking Emergen-C. And get lots of rest and drink lots of water!
Go to the baby isle and get some Johnson & Johnson's Vapor Bath. I should be next to the bedtime bath. It has menthol, eucalyptus & rosemary. Take a nice hot bath with it. The vapors will help open you up and it will help with the aches. For your throat, make some hot lemonade (hot water, honey or sugar and lemon juice). But above all, the most important thing is to try and get as much rest as possible. I know how hard it is when you are a working mom but do your best. Hope you feel better.
Hi, T.. I'm so sorry you're not feeling well but don't worry about not being able to go to the doctor. Most likely what you have is viral and the dr can't do anything about that anyway. It just has to run its course. However, there are some things to aid the healing process. Lots of water and at least 2000mg of vitamin C a day.You can also take Elderberry capsules to boost your immune system and help with those flu aches and pains. Use a Netti Pot (sometimes also called a Rhino horn) for your sinuses. It is amazing and totally works! I told several friends about my good fortune using it and they were skeptical at first but they love it too now. You can find it at your local PCC, Whole Foods grocer, or online. I got mine from my Naturopath. Eat soups and broths, especially chicken noodle soup. Try to stay away from Campbell's brand if you can. Drink hot filtered water with lemon and honey. Gargle salt water for 30 seconds, 3 x's a day. I also have a recipe for a tea that will help soothe and fight infection.
Heat ingredients:
2 cups tomato juice
1 TB fresh garlic
1/2 tsp hot sauce or cayenne pepper (or as much as you can stand)
1 TB lemon juice
Pinch or two of celery salt
Sip this concoction slowly while inhaling the rising steam. It will help to clear your sinuses, soothe your sore throat, has lots of natural vit c in it and the garlic will help fight infection. Get lots of rest! Hope you re better soon!
We have a humidifier that is working for me and I have the same thing. It's a crane "frog" and it's a cool mist humidifier. I think they're about $30, but mine has worked beautifully for all our colds for the past two years. I've been pregnant two of those winters and unable to take medication, but the humidifier helps and I just sleep with it on. My husband also swears by orange juice. It has good vitamin C so it can't really hurt, but he says it soothes his throat.
Steam any form hot bath, kids vapo or the old fashion boil a pot of water set it some where safe and put your face over it with a towel on your head trapping the steam in.
Drink hot water with honey and lemon. Do you have any Vicks vapo rub ? Take vitamins and rest.Take care.
Ceacol (sp) lozenges for your throat. Ocean nasal spray for your nose, and lots of rest if you can find it. Turn on the shower hot and just stand in the bathroom to steam your nose good. Remember a virus will last seven days and a bacterial infection will last seven days if you are sick after that go see a doc. If the infection moves down your throat to your lungs go see a doc.
I finally went to the doctor last week for a sore throat that I had had for over a month, and a dry tickle cough. She gave me a sample of Nasonex nasal spray. In 3 days of taking it my throat is better and no more coughing. You might try some over the counter nasal spray or saline nasal spray if you don't want to try the netti pot or snorting water method. Hope you feel better soon.
In addition to all the suggestions here, I drink Gypsy Cold Care Tea and take Hylands cough tablets from the health food store. I also take tylenol cold medicine. It seems to work the best.
Please drink lots of fluids so you can keep hydrated. Hope you feel all better soon!
Hi T.,
I second the water suggestion, keeping well hydrated will help with the congestion. Also the salt water suggestion, but I have a more effective method. Try googling, "How to use a nettti pot". If you don't have a netti pot, a small teapot can be used, just snip the tip of a baby bottle nipple and fit it over the spout, or a plastic water bottle works too, you just have to cut a vent hole near the top of the bottle so the water will flow. Fit the snipped nipple over the top of the water bottle. Anyway, take 2 cups of warm filtered water, and a rounded teaspoon of sea salt. Take a piece of raw garlic the size of a pencil eraser and crush it into a cheese cloth. Swirl the garlic around in the water and squeeze out the oil. Do this several times until there is not anymore oil coming out. Then pour half of your saline garlic water into your "netti pot" and tip your head to one side over a sink. Fit the nipple into your top nostril and pour the water until it stops flowing, then switch sides. The garlic is a wonderful antiviral antibiotic and the saline helps dry up and also disinfect your sinuses. This is a very effective method and it cleared up a sinus infection, step throat, and a virus for me last summer doing it twice or 3 times a day, however often you feel you need to. It soothes a sore throat instantly as well. good luck and good health to you.
It's miserable to feel yucky--. Ok, so I'm sure you're:
1. eating as much vitamin C ( oranges, lemons - ) as you can
2. getting as much sleep as possible- way more than usual
3. drinking TONS of water ( water is best - not pop- not even juice unless it's Orange juice-WATER)
4. The last suggestion will kick much of the congestion - it sounds gross but REALLY works -- put some nice clean warm water in a big bowl- stand over your bathroom sink- scoop water into your hands and ''snort'' the water up into your nose--- do this about 4 or 5 times twice a day-- messy but VERY effective ( and of course you can do this in the bathtub - or the shower - ).
Feel better soon,
J.
I've been there! Try cold-eeze or Zucor.
Sounds like you could have the notorious flu/cold bug that's going around. So, lots of liquids, vitamin C and ibuprofen for fever, aches and pains. Hot tea with honey an lemon. Over the counter cold medications with an antihistamine and cough supressant might bring you comfort. But it's going to take time. If you respect your co-workers, as long as you've got a fever, stay home. Don't share your bug, it's making it's way back around a 2nd time and it's nasty, lasting a week to two weeks for some folks. Sleep, rest, and everything that can bring you comfort. Warm showers and their steam will help with the nasal congestions as well. Take good care, get well soon!!!
It's really important that you see a doctor. Dr. Ilana Gurvich in NW at Qwan Yin Healing Ats Center has a sliding scale that is very inexpensive. Otherwise there is Outside-In that is free but you have to wait awhile to be seen...###-###-####. Good luck & I hope you feel better.
Hi T.,
Sorry, you have the flew. My 5 yr old is at that same point you are (he has a nasty cough as well) Do a steam thing for your nose and use some Vicks vapor rub on your chest. Let it run its course.
