My 15 yr old was at the pedi yesterday and part of her problem was very extreme sore throat.

Pedi said to sip hot tea with lemon and honey. We are not hot tea drinkers so she just had hot water with lemon and honey. She said it was soothing, but the soreness is not gone yet.

Daughter stilll hardly has a voice. Part of her issue is that she is a cheerleader and it was a bit chilly at the game when she was cheering.

Definately warm salt water. I even make my kids do this at first signs of a sore throat. Usually works everytime if done before throat is really bad.

My mom did the warm water salt thing and it worked wonders. (If it's a little one that might swallow the salty water, I wouldn't do that one just yet.) She would also feed us warm food that goes down easy. Like outmeal, maltomeal, and soup. Cold feels good too. Vanilla ice cream with no chunks and popsicles. If you do tea with lemon and honey be sure it has no caffeine! If we were stuffy she would put vicks vaporub on our chest and feet and put vicks in the humidifier.

Throat is usually sore because the nose/sinuses are dripping down it.
Use a neti pot often and rise nose with warm saline solution.
Gargle with salt water.
If throat is stinging, if you have no numbing throat spray, drink some water first, then take a pinch of salt, look straight up, open your mouth and sprinkle the salt right on the back of your throat. Then try to leave it there long as you can. I was surprised but it really works for me.
I use a wide head band to hold one of those 8 hr air activated heat patches right up against my throat over night.
I like Vicks vapor rub on my throat, too. (Vicks on the feet never worked for me or my son.)
Hot tea with lemon and honey (if for an adult, you can add a teaspoon of brandy)(I like Mandarin Orange tea and Apricot or Apple brandy).
Some people swear by mashing 2 cloves of garlic, mix with lemon juice, stir into hot water, strain out the garlic, then drink it down.

Go get some Bragg's Apple cider vinegar and take a nice swig of it. It will taste awful and may burn but it works ")

Water. 8 oz then 8 oz @ 1/2 an hour, then 8 oz every hour for 6 hours. THEN see if you need meds. Usually it works after 8 oz (now) for me.

Honey & vinegar work also but not much works if you are dehydrated.

Good luck,
M.

If you suspect the beginnings of strep, gargle with warm salt water 2 to 3 times a day. If you just want to soothe the pain, warm tea with honey. Good luck :o)

Same as everyone else - Honey,Lemon and Tea (Chamomile - is my favorite). Gargle warm salt water. What the Lemon does is that it strips all the gunk off of your vocal chords and then the honey has natural antibodies and covers the vocal chords to soothe them. Tea is just good. ;) That is why people say to use lemon and honey - with that combo it helps tremendously for a sore throat. Or you can just take a tablespoon of honey and suck on that - let it glide to cover your throat. Good luck.

Oh also (I know it's weird - but it works) another thing I used to do when I was younger was take a Bandana and tie it around my neck to keep it warm and wear it for a couple of days if need be.

The weather is changing and our bodies re-act to the change in temperatures. The trick to keep from getting sick is trying to keep your body temperature even. That's why you have your coat on outside and take it off inside. Good luck hun.

That depends on if it is for us or the kids. For us I use Amaretto and Orange Juice. I'm allergic to the artificial sweeteners (Nutrasweet, sucralose, etc) so I can't take much and one of my doctors told me to try it. It is an old remedy that my aunt told me my family used so now that is what I take for sore throats, colds, and cough. For the kids I make chicken soup from scratch and make these noodles out of pecorino romano grating cheese, eggs, bread crumbs, and parsley; if you want the recipe let me know, my kids love it.

1. Worm milk (not hot) + 1 t.spoon of honey + 1 t.spoon of real butter (not salted) dissolved in it. Butter is important, as it has vitamin A, which is essential for throat recovery.
2. Gargling with 1/2 glass of water + 1/2 t.spoon of baking soda.
3. Gargling with sesame seed oil. It absorbers all the bacteria. Don't forget to spit it up, and rins your mouth with water after it.
3. Chamomile tea.
4. Beat 1 egg white, spread it on a cheese cloth, and put is around your neck for the night.

Gargle with salt water (it kills germs). Also another time of day, gargle with a water/apple cider vinegar combo - and a little cayenne. I know! But it kills the germs living in your throat.

Gargling with apple cider vinegar gets the microbes out even faster than salt water. I learned this from singers.
